A decent clutch place should be able to piece together a clutch kit to hold what you're asking there for not too much money. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Exedy kits, I think they tend to be too pricey and not offer what they claim.
Just measured the 4m flywheel, it suits a 9" clutch.Originally Posted by Ryley

I'm with shinny. Not so sure about these Exedy clutches. I think they're OK for a mild street driven vehicle....
Before you part with your hard earned, chat to BGT in Hawthorn.
Whatever you do, don't get a PBR clutch.
I dont mind my Exedy clutches, i had a 3 puck in my GZE which operated beautifully, and the full face in the Sprinter is good too.

I had a 6puck ceramic in my n/a which was fine ,
Do stay away from unsprung centreplates tho as there not suitable for everyday driving .
BTW if your one of those people that like to depress the clutch before starting the car , dont do it with an uprated clutch as the extra pressure puts a high load on the crank thrust bearings (until oil is properly circulated) and can induce premature wear![]()
5M-E vs 7M-GE for anyone that cared
225mm left, 240mm right
240mm left, 225mm right
240mm left, 225mm right
CrUZida, is the 4M the same as the 5M?
Cheers

It would appear that the 4M flywheel would be similar to the 5M one.
Hard to tell without putting them side by side.

7M-GE and 2JZ-GE clutches are definitely interchangeable. The guys on the CelicaSupra forums are frequently using 2JZ clutches with their 7M upgrades.

This is what I have been running on my 2JZGE, just with an uprated pressure plate.Originally Posted by Norbie

this is excellent, thanks heaps guys.
I'm going to head off to a clutch specialist very soon, I just need a flywheel. A 7M-GTE flywheel won't fit a W58 will it?
Good to hear about the 2JZ-GE clutch too, How have you found your clutch GT?
After spirited driving my thrust bearing likes to have a bit of a rattle when the clutch isn't depressed, so I may as well get a new one of them too.
probably a question best for the clutch guys, but any rough ideas on what i should budget? $500 for upgraded PP, new clutch and thrust bearing a bit optimistic?
cheers guys.
wilbo- want to sell the 7mge flywheel?![]()
Ryley,
My 1G is the smaller 9" setup, but I doubt it'd make much difference price wise. Mine was $420 for a 30% uprated pressure plate, a heavy duty clutch plate, a machined flywheel and a new thrust bearing pressed onto the holder...oh, and they painted it purple
My ultimate power figure I suggested to them was around that mark, and I told them it would be driven hard, but won't be driven with no mechanical sympathy (flat shifting, burnouts). I said it'll probably see the drag strip a couple of times a year, and hopefully the circuit.
That was an estimate, they went up in chunks from there, the next being a puck type, and the more pucks, the more expensive. Personally, I would either be going a heavy duty one, and if I was going the puck style, I wouldn't bother unless I can afford one of the better ones.

I paid $500 for a brand new high-clamp pressure plate, 5-puck ceramic drive plate, throwout bearing and flywheel machining. That was a couple of years ago but the price should still be fairly close to that.

Excellent, thanks guys. All I need to do is source teh flywheel and then I'll start going around to clutch places. If there are no good ones in Ballarat, I'll head down to Melbourne.
No point in screwing around with shit that ain't no good.
My final newbie question- The pressure plate is included with a clutch isn't it? Ie, I won't have to source a clutch to suit flywheel, then a PP to suit flywheel and clutch....
Thanks heaps guys, most appreciated.
They have been Exedy units and I keep bending drive straps, hence my less than enthusiastic response to the Exedy comments. That said, I think there is some other problem and probably not the fault of the clutch per se.Originally Posted by Ryley

Nope, it is behind a 7mge atm...seems like a lot of work to take it outOriginally Posted by Ryley
Oh and come on, someone give me some rep for the shit I posted already
