A340 how strong ?

dropping the 7MGTE into the crown shortly, now im wondering how strong are the N/A autos, or will i just get a box off a turbo first up and save myself changing it later ?

can be made to handle lots of power, not sure on std tho, as i beleive differen versions handle different amounts of power {N/A 7m vs a 1JZ TT}

Should be able to get the turbo box fairly easily... Heck, I'll even have one lying around in the next few days. Hardly worth posting it though!

yeah spose i should just bite the bullet and do it, save me changeing it again down the track.
just wasn't entirely sure how much stronger the boxs off turbos were compared to the N/A ones

Well my NA box is starting to show signs of wear even without any forced induction.

The Turbo Autos should be very easy to come by and cheap , With a larger tranny cooler they will support 500hp

I believe the supercrown runs an A340 variant, which has been modded a little bit

The supercrown (have a search on the old forums) is a 70's crown fitted with a 4.5Lt straight 6, big turbo, 450rwkw monster - running an auto that has been heavily modded by MV Automatics in SA.

oh yeah i know the one now thats a ball tearer that one, i just wasnt sure if i was missing out on something or not, like maybe it was a production car

the "supercrown" may be running one, however i seriously doubt that auto box can even compare remotley to any production a340.

the 'box should handle the power, however the main weak point of these boxes is heat.

i thoroughly suggest getting a tranny cooler, it will increase the life and performance of your 'box.

yep got 2 coolers for it, i know heat kills and auto really quick, but maybe ill see how it holds up its only a box they aint that hard to swap over later on

A340e out of a N/A supra & the A340E out of a F/I supra have same strength just differant ratios,

with mv modding it some say the box will handle 600+ horsepower depending on your foot, they say these boxes dont really blow the just start to slip (this is what iv been told) but some other people say you will blow heaps up with 600+ horsepower i dont belive this i think it should handle it for a while and worst case get a new they arnt worth much probaly $500 from a wrecker then just change parts from your old box to get you speed changes back, valve body.

From my experience they mainly start to slip rather than blow up dramatically. Sometimes they will start to refuse to change into certain gears too.
