was it at idle when it came on or under load?
could be that the cable to the pressue gauge is loose,
well i just went for a drive during my lunchbreak just then and suddenly, out of the blue my oil warning light came on for like 2 seconds and went off again.. totally randomly. drove for another 10 mins and it didnt come on, then it suddenly came back on for about 5 seconds then disappeared again. suddenly getting a bit worried i heaed back to the office and it didnt come on again.. but whilst i remained parked with the engine idling.. it suddenly came back on again and disappeared.
its never done this before so its got me perplexed.
the only factor i can think of is that on the weekend i did my every 5000km oil change.. usually i used Castrol Formula R 10w60.... but this time i decided to go a little bit pricier and lighter and went for the Motul 8100 5w40... would this be whats causing the light to suddenly come on and off like this, being a lighter oil viscosity its fooling the sensor that theres practically no oil in there?
thoughts?

Check the wiring on the sensor, maybe even replace the sensor.
Being a thinner oil doesn't fool the sensor that theres no oil there, thats not what the sensor is doing. The sensor is reading pressure. So yeah, as the 5w40 oil is thinner the pressure will be lower than when you had the 10w60 in there.
Might be an idea to invest in a oil pressure guage so you can actually see what the pressure is.
hmmm... okay i just left the office and 2 mins after i left the light came back on and stayed on since... its the 'fill oil' light in orange.. not the red 'check oil' one..
however i pulled the dipstick out when i got home and the thing is right up to the top of the F line on the dipstick... so its full, its got oil...
the thing is the owners manual recommends 5W30 as a replacement so why would it be sending my oil light nutters?!![]()

10W60 is a bit too thick imo... i wouldn't put anything more than 50 in a 3S..
me thinks the sensor governing the light doesn't like the thinner oil... it shouldn't but it's one of those unexplained things.. i know it happened on the FTO once.. changed from a 15W-40 Ausfield shit... to a 5W-40 fully synthetic motul... and the light would flash when making hard corners at trackday...
just a thought, could your oil pump need attention?
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
I believe there is a sensor in the side of the sump, a lil bit like fuel a fuel level sender.
It is just a on/off switch on a float in the sump.
Check your connections to this sensor.
If all ok pull the sensor out and check it's operation with a multi meter.
Also check the float, may have a small hole in it and the thinner oil is leaking into it.

the thing that fascinates me, is it was a clean snip. but the car is so low noone could get under it to physically snip it... is it possible the wiring overheated and just snapped itself?? (highly unlikely one would think)
+reppage for all you who said check line to oil sender...
