    Default PCV valve problem??

On my 3S-GTE i seem to be getting a lot of oil coming into the air intake pipe before the the turbo. It appears to be entering the pipe through the hose that connects to the crankcase breather (i assume this is the PCV valve).

Couple of questions, firstly is the valve located inside the rocker cover itself? Because unlike my 1JZ i cannot physically see what i believe to be. On my 1JZ it is the black plastic elbow thingy. But on the 3S it appears that the rubber pipe simply connects to a steel fitting on the rocker cover??

Also can i simply add another PCV valve in the rubber line that is connecting to air intake pipe to prevent oil entering the pipe? I assume that fitting a catch can would not be the answer as it will simply fill quickly with oil being pumped out of the rocker cover........if the PCV valve is stuffed that is.

Im also confused as to how it should work, should it remain closed when the car is on boost? and only allow gasses to flow when engine is in vacuum? or when engine is at nil vacuum or pressure?

    Im hella confused.....

That pipe won't have a valve in it, there should be another pipe connected to your plenum that will have a valve in it (same as the 1J). When your throttle is closed & a vacuum exists in the plenum this will suck the oily gases into the plenum through the valve, as the throttle opens & the vacuum dissapears (and is replaced by boost) the valve will close & the crank case will breath through the pipe going to in front of your turbo.
How much oil are we talking here? Unless there's alot of oil, as in enough to notice your oil level going down over time, don't worry about it too much. If you want hook up a catch can in between the cam cover & turbo inlet so you can see exactly how much your losing out that side.

    ahh i see

yeah it is T pieced to the plenum. There is quite a bit of oil going into the air intake pipe, when i removed the pipe after a short run it is soaked in oil.

I might fit a catch can and just see how much it is really loosing, like you suggested.

Yo BigWorm I'm about to build myself a catch can and was thinking of running two imputs one of each cam cover then one exit into the intake in front of the turbos. Is there any problem with doing this? I figure it can only help, less oil in the intake = octain.

    Sorry for the hijack WildSupra.

Gen 1 & 2 3SGTE's do not have a PCV Valve, the PCV dumps just before the turbo the vacuum created before the compressor during boost is what makes the PCV system function.

Run a catch can if you want to stop oil entering the intake pipework... just clean it out each oil change.
The can "filling up" shouldn't be a problem unless you've got mega blowby in which case the can filling up will be the least of your problems.

Cheers toobs, after closer inspection i thought the same thing, but was very confused as i have not seen it set up like this on turbo engines before.

So on boost it basically sucks oily mist from the rocker cover?? Cant be a good idea surely. And all the rest of the time if there is any pressure at all in the crankase it just vents straight to the intake pipe? Not cool if ya ask me.

I'l fit a can and see what happens.

    Cheers
