    Default 1JZ-GTE Soarer Temp Issues

Hey everybody. As some of you might know, i have recently put a 1JZ + 5spd into my GZ20 Soarer (Merudo's old Soarer). Now, the temperature is a litle bit worrying. Basically, within 10minutes, it reaches 90ish degrees, and is still climbing. I have taken out the thermostat, flushed the radiator/engine, checked for air pockets, checked the water pump, checked everything.
Could somebody please let me know the normal operating temperature for a 1JZ? Any assistance would be muchly appreciated and very helpful. Should it be running so hot, so soon?

no fucking way~! my old soarer has a 1J in it now?!

ITS THE WAY GOD INTENDED IT!!!!!!111one

    (sorry, off topic but yeah)

IIRC the thermostat i had in the 1G was an 88deg one so perhaps 90 is not so out of the question, although if it kept rising.... hmm.

Do you have a rides thread buried somewhere on toymods?

maybe even a factory MHG isnt enough to quell the onslaught of the supra BHG issues?!

Im thinking a BHG, there is a bit of milky residue under the oil cap, but no signs in the radiator in terms of Oil/Air. Maybe the residue is just because the engine has been sitting so long... I'm out of ideas though.

    Thermo fans are definitely engaging?

My 1JZ sits smack on 90 most of the time, rarely goes any higher.

Thermo fans are what I would be thinking aswell, mine over heated for ages until I got the thermos fixed up

Firstly 90 degrees is the correct temprerature, but obviously it shouldn't really climb much over 5 degrees more than this.

    What fan are you running?

When you say you "flushed" the radiator, do you mean you physically removed it from the car and had it flushed aswell as having the external fins degrimed?

mine gets to about 180F at operating temp any higher and the thermostat opens right up to cool her down.

Im using a brand new davies craig 16" thermo fan ($375), in the stocko hydraulic fan shroud. Removed the radiator, and stuck a hose on full pressure run through it for around 10minutes, cleaned the fins and done the same with the engine. After doing a complete re-installation of most of the cooling system last night, it seems as if its running a lot cooler, got upto around 88-92degrees last night, idling in the driveway, with only water in the system (No Coolant), and was VERY slowly going up.

I'm figureing thats roughly around what it shold be. The ECU is a Wolf 3D v4, we've installed 2 temp sensors, one for the wolf, one for the aftermarket gauge. They're both working ok.. The white residue under the oil cap is still a little worrying, however, lots of people who i have spoken to keep telling me that it could just be condensation inside the engine from sitting in Japan etc... I'm planning on dropping the oil out of it on the weekend, and seeing if it has any water in the oil, etc. Hopefully that should be the end of the heat problems.

If the engine has been sitting for a while, the residue under the cap probably isn't an issue, after its been hot for a while it will probably dissapear.

I would also suggest that 90 aint that hot, if its in the 105+ bracket it might be a worry.

You should put thermostat back in. That is why it takes ages to warm up. Stock thermostat starts to open at 82 and fully open by 92.

My car sits on 86deg on the highway and about 92 when stopped and in traffic.

If you want to check for BHG, take it to mechanic as they can do it in about 2 seconds and it should only cost $20 or so. I got mine checked the other day on the dyno as the microtech was saying that it was getting very hot but it turned out to be a ground issue.

Slightly off topic, but is your car manual or auto? What igniter and coils are you using? Is the ecu a v4 or v4+?

    Thanks

Its a Manual, using a Haltech Igniter, and running a wasted spark system using 3 coils i bought from a performance shop around this area... The wolf is just a v4, i was thinking of getting the V4+, because of the extra auxillary outputs, but cost vs need, it wasn't the best option. Thanks for all your help people, it is muchly appreciated. Will be taking it for a drive tonight, just to see if it still overheats. In regards to the Thermostat, i will be putting it back in, after the Dyno Tune. I read in another thread you can get an aftermarket TRD replacement that lowers the opening temp to 82 degrees? Anybody know where these can be bought from for a 1JZ?
