    Default Tips for Driveshaft Removal?

    Hi,
I'm having trouble getting the driveshafts out of my c52 gearbox. Does anybody have any hints/tips to get them out ? Just a huge crowbar? Is there any recommended spot to hammer ? I'll be doing it on the ground, under the car.

    Thanks in advance.

Grab yourself a big prybar, about 50-60cm
Find a spot between casing of gearbox and driveshaft cv, then give it a sharp push, obviously pushing the right way.
I find it easier if just before giving it a go, push the driveshaft all the way into the box, that way the circlip isn't jammed to start with.
And secondly, if it won't come out, give the shaft a bit of a turn, this also helps with the 'sweet spot' that the circlip sits in

    Hey again,
I seem to be having the same problem with a c50 box this time. I can't seem to get the driver's side (longer) drive shaft out.

Do you guys have any other tips ? I've bent one of my pry bars trying.

    Thanks.

Yeh I did that with the other set... accidently pulled the boot off while trying to get the shaft off.

but now I need to keep this set in order to have a running car.

I use a very large flat blade screwdriver and a mini-sledge to remove C series driveshafts.

I get someone to hold the other end of the driveshaft so it's parallel to the ground, then hold the tip of the flatblade against one of the ridges on the inner CV, a couple of quick smacks on the end of the screwdriver with the mini-sledge and the retaining clip pops through the splines in the diff so the shaft can be removed.

When re-installing the shaft make sure the opening on the clip at the end of the spline is facing the ground, then tap it back in using a similar method to the one above.

I used a large flathead and carefully prised them away from the gearbox spline. Try not to bend or score anything.

Once they move a little they come loose enough to pull them.

    Thanks for the help guys.
I was able to get it out. My problem was probably lack of persistence.
I removed the exhaust secondaries to give myself a little bit more room to move.

Good to hear. Yeah I forgot to mention if you take the engine pipe off it gives you a lot more room to work with.
