Hi,
Well, here it is - for those rare and lucky (or perhaps unlucky) people who own the rare P51 gearbox and need it serviced.
There's 25 images in total, so it's going to go over three posts.
This is probably the only site in the world to have this technical/repair info on the P51 gearbox. Cool, eh?
Enjoy.....

hey I thought p51`s were a direct drive unit i.e. straight off the crankshaft and onto the 4 bladed propeller. I guess the`ve got some sort of prop governor on them though. tough motor. in war emergency mode the later series (V-1650-9) could churn out 2270 crankshaft HP. those merlin 68 motors are tough as nails...

Hi,
The P51 Mustang (WW2 fighter) was a dog until the British married it to the superlative Merlin engine. The V-series engines were Allison engines (US engines) and they did not perform well in the P51 - although they worked well in the P38 Lightning.
All the Merlin engines were tough. In regards to the Allies, the British were the masters of making robust and powerful liquid cooled engines. The USA mastered the big air-cooled radials, although the British Bristol Hercules was a marvellous radial air-cooled, sleeve-valved engine.
However, this is all OT.....

Hi,
150 dot per inch, on a Canon 5300C scanner. The original book is only A4 size... maybe a little smaller.

1. There's no point arguing with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
2. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference
Super old thread revival here... thanks for the scans. After pulling the gearbox out of my Dad's Daimler SP250 sportscar last night it looks as though the Toyota box mated to it is a P51 (33111-20090 visible on the side of the case)
Now to try and find the source of the noise it's making
Seems as though the further I read the less promising fixing it sounds due to lack of parts.
Thanks again!
Dan
