AFAIK They all came with 6 Speed but that doesn't mean that someone in the past has swapped from the Auto to a W58 or similar.

Someone's selling a gearbox, claiming that it's a 5 speed manual, and was from behind an Altezza, with a 4 cylinder beams engine. (I'd assume 3SGE, what else could it be?)
Now the strange thing is, did the Altezza even come with a 5 speed at all? All beams 3SGE Altezzas that I've ever seen, have been six speed!
They said it definitely isnt an auto or tiptronic box, 5 speed manual.
I think that they're either wrong, and it's actually a six speed, or it must be a 5 spd tiptronic or auto or something?
Can anyone confirm?

Beige.... The new Black!!!
1. go see them
2. confirm its a 6 speed when they arent looking
3. pay 5 speed price
4. .........
5. profit
- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
Yeah, wreckers still want 2.5k for a 6 speed!
Would be sweet if I could get a 6 speed for.... a whole lot less.![]()
It's probably just a 5sp from a standard 3S-GE and this person's said to himself "Nobody will know the difference"...
Let's face it, if you were somebody that didn't know any better, you'd think that surely a 5sp from a late model car (Altezza) would be better than a 5sp from an earlier model car (Celica)!![]()
Altezza is the first 3SGE to come in factory RWD.
Well with the exception of MR2s, but they dont count as they're transverse.![]()

Basically, here's the rundown of what happened:
1. Someone bought an altezza, with toyota warranty
2. gearbox made whine when in 6th gear, car was only 12,000kms old
3. gearbox pulled out and replaced with brand new one ($22,000 worth! jesus)
4. rear casing of old gearbox taken off, inspected for warranty purposes to see what's wrong
5. Nothing wrong with box except for whining bearing, gearbox put back together, but not with sealant etc
6. Gearbox sold to me for $500NZD
7. Going to price up replacement bearing and get it reassembled
8. massive profit!
The guys wife put it on trademe saying it was a blown 5 speed box, so I was the only one that bid on it.
She didnt know much about it, so I got her husband to give me a call, and he confirmed the story, that it was a 6 speed etc.
I have the best gearbox luck, the last gearbox I bought was an NA SW20 gearbox from a 1998 gen 5, rebuilt with cusco LSD, got it for $200.![]()
I've got a spare 6 speed I'd love to sell for anything like $2500. Actually, $1000 will buy it
lmfao! gold!
