Most conversion guides you read on this site will use that 5 speeder or an externally identical gearbox.
They're called the W5x gearboxes: W55, W57, W58...
So now, armed with that knowledge, you should be right. Right?
Does anyone know which bellhousing i am supposed to use to connect a 1ggte 5 spd gearbox to a 3sgte??? or if there is any other simpler way?

Y series is good means you can get the starter motor and clutch on the inlet side.
you say the y series bellhousing, whats it out of???
4S bellhousing but as Joel mentioned you end up with the starter and slave on the exhaust side. Also you need to space the starter back and modify how it bolts up so it meshes with the ring gear on the flywheel correctly.
PS. CORONA S SERIES BELLHOUSINGS DONT WORK

FWIW this is what the gen 4/5 33SGE's have for crank-angle sensing.
That's on my Fraser and it runs a different front cover, but it all works just the same.
The gen 3's also have a cam angle sensor or a crank angle sensor cant remember.

Out of interest.. Does anyone know if the gen4 cam angle sensor would fit on a gen2? If you swapped the oil pump housing/front cover?
The Y series bellhousing I used was from a 3/4y tarago/4runner etc. It's a bit more work than the S series one, but a feel a better end result.

hey all, sorry for digging an old thread up - thats what search is for i guess.
but, ive been looking into this conversion for a rona and for what reasions does the corona bellhousing not fit? i read bill's write up on the RWD conversion having to get 5mm milled so the imput shaft is far enough in.
so how does using the 4Y bell housing differ to this and how is it abit more work than using a S bellhousing?
thanks.
john.
You can use a wider deeper spigot bearing and dont have to shave the bell housing. I got a 19mm one works well.
Cheers
Joel
ahh, thats a good reasion why, wilbo showed me a 3s compaired to 4y bellhousing comparision and one hole was out, did you have this problem?
hummm... might of missed that oneOriginally Posted by TurboRA28

Yeah there is a hole at the top I had to weld and re-drill.
But it meant having the starter on the inlet side which I think is a good thing.
The spigot I just got from a bearing shop.
Heres a pic of my bellhousing that I drew up in paint with measurementsOriginally Posted by xcedricx
Bellhousing needed to be machined to get the input shaft to sit into the spigot. IIRC the problem with using a larger spigot was that it doesnt fully disengage the clutch.

i guess the decision comes down to what bell housing i can find for the right price.
should prob clear up my intentions of this tho - planning on building a gen 1 to gen 3 3SGE into a ST/RT141 corona, so im not totally sold on putting the starter on the other side, but then again not having to get something mechined is a bonus as well. a normal manual rwd spigot bearing should be enough.
