Quick question about this sort of thing, i understand that in a Drag situation on a RWD car it is probably only worth putting these on the rear wheels. How ever like mentioned a "track day" possible consisting of turning corners, is it bad to only put these on the rear or the front? like if you put super grippy tyres on the rear would that cause more understeer??Originally Posted by finney

Finney, like you i went looking for RT215 azenis for track days but found you can't get them in 205/45/16. I've also only got one set for street and track, so ended up getting the RT115s, which are the street version of the 215s. They were awesome on the track for what they are, I'm really happy with them, heaps of grip, was actually suprised how close my mid corner speed was to my mate's mx5 with 205/50/15 RT215s, and there should be some difference due to car/chassis (AE93).
I did chew them out a bit, it was a reasonably warm day and i was doing long stints (up to 15 laps, gotta love uncrowded track days!) so i think they were getting pretty hot; also my alignment/camber wasn't really close to right so that wouldn't have helped.
On the road, they're awesome, good wear, really good in the wet too, 2 big water channels cope with even lots of surface water, they were stable as on the highway in a torrential downpour.
My mate with the mx5 runs the semis full time on the street too, and he reckons the wear's not too bad considering.
The way i look at it is slightly different, realistically the car spends a lot more time on the road than the track so top end street that can handle the occasional track day is my approach. My mate is happy to go through sets more often to have the performance of semi slicks all the time. He used to run Toyos and said they were a bit grippier on the track, but the life he's getting out of the falkens is so much better.
My 115s were $200 (maybe up to $210?) at pretty well full retail, as opposed to $180 for the 205/50/15 RT215s.

Just wondering how many kms you guys are able to get from semi slicks?

When I was researching buying the r888s, I saw some poms stating that they had gotten 16000 miles on them on the street! It's all relative, I have done about 800 pretty hard k's on mine and they aren't noticably worn except for the outer edge of my fronts. This I believe is due to me not having any negative camber on the front, and could be rectified with a bit of neg camb, to get a more even wear. The car is very neutral in handling but when pushed really hard into corners has a slight underster.
If you drove around like a normal person on the r88s I believe the 16000 miles statement could be achievable. The guy at Tyrepoer reservoir basically told me that after about 3 to 4 decent track days on the ra1s they would be fubar, but the r888s would get maybe almost double the mileage. Note HERE the comment made about this bimmer competing in Targa on RA1s!
16,000mi isn't far off how far my normal street tyres have lasted!
I got about 30,000km from my RE050As...

GT:: i think i'll probably just go for a similar thing to what you've got. if i go for semi's i think i'll throw them on my stockies unless i come across a cheap set of decent 15's

I bought some RT215s a couple of months ago for street use. I was very happy with them all around, until the other night when I made the discovery that while they grip great on the road, no tyres can save you when there's loose crap all over the road when you don't expect it...
Bit of a warning with semislicks too, if you are in fairly torrential rain they suck even worse than your normal "performance" tyres.

Yeah, i've had my eye out for a nice cheap set of 15s to put some semis on too! I'm happy the way i'm running things now, but the 215s have only done 2 track days, one wet and one dry. There's still plenty of tread on them after 6-7(?) months, but i'm not sure how many dry long track days they'll survive. Just hard to justify the extra cash at the moment, got my eye on some nice 15s but they're not cheap. Always the way...
You up for our next wakefield day? I have a feeling there's one soon, i should check up on that. As usual i'll post when i've got confirmed details

I have 215/45-16 Azenis on the back of my AW11. They sure grip a hell of a lot better than the normal 205/40-16 road tyres I had on it before. They did however spin fairly hard going through 1st and 2nd at WSID.
At $185 per tyre I think they're unbelievable.
