I agree with Takai about the warning on semi-slicks in the rain. I knew this beforehand but i once took out WORN semi-slicks on the front (I so wasnt expecting it to rain) lets just say its dangerous and dont do it.

I went looknig for some RT Azenis awhile back and got talked into trying Falken ZIEX ZE-326 from a guy who seemed to know what he was talking about. I drove down to Melbourne on these and even after all that driving (which included a serious winding road detour) the tyres have had minimal wear (if any) but yet amazed me at their grip capability.

Basically I tried them because the guy claimed they were basically as good as the famous RT's but were not as soft so they actually last awhile. (Obviously not as a good due to harder compound but thats the trade-off)

$168 a tyre.. not bad either.

the ze-326 is not too shabby a tyre ive currently got some on the back on the aw11 but they are far from a semi slick... far from it.

i've had the ze326's before on my old 16" wheels. and i'd have to say that in the dry they were great. up the old road they would heat up a fiar bit, to the point where you could barely touch them but they never gave way once - apart from one time into a corner when i lost my brakes but even then they did hold thier own and despite the oversteer they did hold me to a point.

however when it was wet they were an absolute nightmare, little to no traction when on a mild hill start and the understeer/liftoff oversteer almost caught me a few times.

to my knowledge they have been phased out by the ZE512's which i have on the front now. i've found these to be a pretty good tyre and would say that they are better than the 326 in the wet, most likely due to the fact that they are a directional tyre. bang for buck i'd probably get them again for city driving. $130 each for 205/40 R16 also they are the only tyre brand i've recognised in that size after caling araound to a few places.

word of warning also...semi slicks are great rubber but you have got to run them all around the car as I have found when I had a pair of falkens on the front of the soarer it made it rather unbalanced and while the front end grip was awesome it took a lot away from the handling as the rear had absolutely no chance of keeping up...

I had some 326's, and I must say they're, well, an average tyre. Didn't do anything to dramatically impress me, although I guess they lasted a fair while.

I had a pair of these too at one stage on my KE70 and was impressed by the change to $125-per-tyre A539s.

i'm starting to think of going for more of a street tyre now just for the life of the tyre and also for driving in the wet.

just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the toyo proxes T1R's?

I am interested about this too. I need to get some new tyres put onto the 17's i picked up for the jza70. Any suggestions?? I don't want seedyschlap5000s or top $$$. Something in the middle would be nice.

I've been running some toyo proxes4's on my gze ae82. After 5000km in just under 2 months, about half of which was pretty hard, the front tyres are down by 4mm.
AFIK the alignment is as it was set when I got them. 1mm toe, 1* neg, 2.5*castor.
rears are barely worn at all.

I think that's a bit too high wear rate :S

I've got the RT615s on the Liberty now. Holy crap they're sticky!!! They're in a totally different league that the OEM "Ultra High Performance" RE050As.

    Incredible!

If they wear well, then I'll be over the moon.

    Here's an interesting thread also.
