    Default SC12 on a 22r

Hi I have had a SC12 fitted onto my 22rc engine which lives in my 4x4 hilux.
I was just wondering if anybody has an actuall manual on the SC12 or some proper info aobut how to set it up correctly as i am having fuel problems with it surging really bad at high revs in 3rd 4th and 5th gears I have had a electric fuel pump fitted with a malpassi rising rate fuel regulator i would like to know if enlarging my jets in my webber 32/36 carby would work or any other help would be great thanks alot.....

The SC12 seems like a strange choice for the 22R, why not the SC14? The SC12 would be revving pretty hard on the 22R, what boost and overdrive are you running?

Information on the supercharger probably wont help you with setting up the fuel system. The supercharger is nothing more than an air pump, it is more likely to be your carby or ignition system as the source of the problem.

You best bet is to use a wide band air/fuel ratio meter in the exhaust to see if the engine is leaning out.

The weber tuning guide I was reading when sorting out my carby seemed to indicate that if its running lean it can sometimes give all the symptoms of surging.

Generally speaking though. If you are now running with an SC you've effectively increased the capacity of the engine - so I'd say a rejet may be the order of the day.

RRFPR will not help you if the carbi is pre-SC

A little off topic, but how did you go about mounting the charger to the block? Did you pay someone to do it, if so how much did it cost?

    Just a couple of questions:

Which model Hilux and under what conditions?

Reason I ask is that mine does the same thing although it's a stock 22R.

I've narrowed mine down to fuel pickup in the tank because it only does it at half tank or less.

I would also think a rejet is in order - it's probably running lean.

I got a business here in rocky to fit it they custom made brackets up for it but didn't do much in the way of getting it running all that great cost me $2500 that included the charger. Thanks for the tips will get the jets bored out a bit and see how that goes there is plenty of pressure pushing it through but it just cant fit anymore through the jets.

I was mainly wondering about the 2 small hose connectors coming out of the charger they both blow out but they are just set up with a hose going from one to the other would love to know what these are actually ment to do.

The two small holes are breathers for rear bearing housing, plumb it into the intake system downstream of supercharger or the air going out of them will blow lubricating oil away from rear bearings and they will die.

32/36 is too small for a blown 2.4ltr, its too small for a worked n/a 2.4ltr.
If do keep it though, dont get the jets bored out, buy new ones, and u need more components then jsut the jets to have correct tuning.

but the 2 holes are located at the front of the charger, just seems like a strange place for breathers for the rear bearing housing???????

and to luckey-KE20 it is on a 1991 single cab 4x4 which had a reconditioned engine fitted bout 2 years ago i have also got extractors and a 2.25inch sports exhaust

It will be going in for a re-jet in a couple of weeks so hopefully that will fix the problems i am having

sc12 has a yellow handled dip stick to check the oil, sc14 doesnt have any dipstick.

No pictures but have some measurements which may help
    .............length.......... width....... height........ weight........ displacement
    SC14.....311mm ......148mm ....254mm ........11.9kg ........1420cc
    SC12.....249mm ......148mm.... 254mm ........10.8kg ........1200cc

Thought there should have been 3 hoses, 1 from one end and 2 from the other.

well turns out it is a SC14 and yes your right there are 3 hoses would this be ok to hook these three hoses upto the hose going to my boost guage or the hose running to the fuel regulator????? this would be much easier for now then when i get the intercooler fitted i will have them plumbed into the system a better way.

This would most likely explain the extreme heat of the boosted air going to my engine, because the chargers breathers are blocked the heat is being kept in and overheating the hole setup.

Thank you very much for your help i think you just saved the life of my charger and my engine

Are you running suck trough or blow through Carbies?

Not sure if running an intercooler with suck through carbies would be a brilliant idea, that is going to be a fair bit of air/fuel mix waiting for a backfire.

If you are running blow through are the carbies mounted in a sealed box or how are you equalising pressure in the float chambers with the boost pressure?
