    Default thinking about ca18det

i am thinking about doing a ca18det swap or 4age into my ke70, since 4age is lack of torque.
i m headache for the choosing this 2 engine.
does any1 share some experience here ?

    Into what car?

I'm putting a ca18det into my ke20, but obviously 4age or 4agte is the done thing (being toyota..). The reason i'm going with the CA is better bang for buck (no takumi tax.. motors are cheap), and the fact the stock silvia/180sx box is good for a fair lump of power, while a t50 is made of glass, so you'd need to spend more again on a gearbox conversion.

in my experience the ca18 is not too bad an engine great value for money and they go very hard, only thing with the DET is you might wanna revise the internals if you plan on running any more that about 8 pounds. another thing to watch for is where the shifter will come up through the floor, you may find it comes up fairly close if not underneath your handbrake, the nissan boxes are very long!

other than that it should be easy

    8psi?

    wtf

a good friend of mine is making 224rwkw on 17psi with a remap, apexi AX53B60 turbo and a totally stock CA...he has been making this for nearly 2 years and thrashing it on the drift track at over 20 events...now the motor is finally getting tired...they can handle the punishment...just make sure you maintan them...

thnz, i m planning to use rb tranny wif ca bellhousing which is 20mm further forward.
since 4age is quite expensive, n the parts oso expensive.
will it overpowered for drifting ?

Seriously where the fark did you pull this from? Such a broad useless comment.

Stop propogating shit you have heard elsewhere. Or add some more details to you post. They are getting old, dont blame the internals.

    cheers

should be negged.. *meh* CA18s are crap, but only because of the SR20 and they get abused a lot.. they do hold up coz yeh i have a mate who's got one of them S13s limited with a digital speedo and hicas on it.. and stock motor running bigger turbo (T3/T4 i think it was).. goes close to 20 psi and Apexi power FC ecu and yea the dyno-sheet said something similar to MR 1JZ's 224 rwkw.. (memory's hazy coz it's a nissan but damn sure it was around 21x)

instead of an RB transmission, why not find a nissan bluebird TR-X that has one of those CA20 engines i think it is.., the transmission bolts straight up.. (do you have any of them in pahang though?)

between the CA18 and 4A-Ge... they both have a lot of potential and to say "over-power" really depends on how much u want to get from it, i.e. how much u willing to spend, and what you want to use it for.. as for drifting, it's a matter of opinion.. there are people who say 200 hp engine + 900 kgs body with 52 / 48 balance is perfect.. others say 500 hp on 800 kgs is just enough... etc etc....

Take the money that you would spend on purchasing said CA18 and doing the conversion (allow at least 2-3 times the amount of a CA18 and gearbox), and put it to better use in terms of a 4A-GTE...

That would give you the torque that you wish for, and would be money better spent in my eyes!

    My 2 cents...

ill prob be doing a ca conversion in the budget ae71 drifter in the near future, cant beat the value, should have the engine in and running for about $1K before even selling the 4a and t50. ill be using the s13 box despite the extra length, ill just have to make it work being a budget car and all.
