    Default Clutch Slave Cylinders (W58)

I have a MKIV supra W58 with the stock clutch slave cylinder.

The clutch is dayum heavy, I presume this is because the BMW master cylinder is too big (proportionally).

Will increasing the slave cylinder dia. reduce the pedal effort??
(reducing travel is OK as I have plenty)

    If So...

Does anyone know of a slave cylinder that will bolt onto a W58 and is a bigger diameter than the stock MKIV supra one???

    TIA

    Glenn

Yes, increasing the slave diameter will reduce the pedal effort.

I would suggest taking your existing slave down to a brake place (eg ABS) and looking through their catalogue and comparing your slave with any possibilities until you find a suitable one.

Remember that you can space the slave out from the bellhousing and also make a longer pushrod if needed.

Using the standard pressure plate setup from the 2jz-ge?

Do the beemers use pull-clutch setup (original)?

How heavy is heavy? Personally I hate the really soft stock setup (eg: jzx100 or any stock car), little bit of hardness like with the w58 + tiny modification in the pedal box setup and she's fine with me.

ps. did you answer my PM from 3 years back?

I presume it is a standard pressure plate.

BM's have a push clutch, but the slave is in a pull orientation as the clutch fork pivots on the opposite side of the bellhousing.

It's hard like you can't leave it in at the traffic lights, you get the leg shakes going on
And taking off smoothly if you're being lazy is a bit rough.

PS. Did I?? PM me again if I didn't

Also what clutch are you using? The Extreme clutches have a notoriously heavy pickup, especially compared to the jap clutches out there. My 4400lb TRD clutch had a much softer pickup compared to a friends 2500lb Extreme jobbie.

Making your slave bigger will INCREASE the throw required.

Id probly go down the pushrod track unless there is a bolt on slave that is larger. (EDIT: lines dont take too much buggerising)

Hmmm... So it rules out my push / pull-type clutch idea. Because I did have the same issue on my car (mercs use pull-type), exactly as you describe - shaking leg, hard to take off properly. Can you feel it's constant pressure or feels harder (ie: return to normal position) as you engage clutch? If it's the latter, then my solution would help, as per below:

What I did was replace the spring in the pedal box with a much softer one because it basically getting _compressed_ when pushing it.

It's not as soft as a jzx100 setup (semi offtopic: I wonder why something sounded like it was catching when engaging? R154s are rough as tanks?) clutch pedal... but I prefer it with a little bit of pressure.

Then again, I don't drive like a crazy mofo abusing the clutch.

re PM... don't worry, it was 2 years ago about engine transplants... The joy of doing the transplant with no expectation of what's needed to do it!
