what you have said is correct, the gen3 was used in both the MR2 and th GT4 models.

gen3 3sgte is SW20, it just got a revised engine 93 or 94 onwards. Model code didn't change.
I have 2 jap import gen 3 3SGTE's neither of which I brought directly of a wrecker or importer.Before the throttle body one has a cast alloy 'male' spigot for intercooler ducting.The other motor has a 'female' bolt on rubber adapter for intercooler ducting.
I am guessing one motor is from a GT4 and the other is from a MR2.
Can anyone verify this please?
Also I know the model code for a gen 3 powered Gt4 is st205 but what is the model code for a gen 3 3sgte powered MR2? (Assuming therewas a gen 3 MR2)

Don't quite follow your reply.
Did all GT4's have top mount and therefore the rubber coupler and all MR2's have intercoolers and the metal coupler or did both cars use both depending on intercooler configuration.

easy way to tell is if the 2000 badge is still on there.. (on the intake plenum)
Facing the engine E-W direction this would be the MR2 engine -
Exhaust Header
Head
Plenum (Badge is reading across "2000 Twin Entry Turbo")
Or in opposite looking at it W-E, for the GT4 engine -
Plenum (Badge would be facing you this time also saying "2000 Twin Entry Turbo")
Head
Exhaust Header
If that doesnt make sense, just tell me and ill post a pic of a MR2 gen III engine.

No 2000 badge on motors.
I need the clamp that goes on the rubber coupler so before I go to the Toyota dealer I want to make sure i know which car the motor is out of.( have't been able to find a aftermarket clamp of high quality that is narrow enough to fit clamp groove on coupler.)
