Possible but not worth the hassle. Sell the RA65 and buy an MA61, the conversion becomes 10 times easier. Quite a few people here have done it now.
hi guys just wondering if any of you might have done this conversion ie removing the 22r and fitting a 1jzgte will it match up to the gear box what mods are required to the engine mounts and etc and any advise would be a great help this if not for road use but hill climbs ra65 celica

...or consider a different engine into the RA65.
You could always look at the 1ggte. Its been done quite a few times. 2 liter straight 6 twin turbo. FUN!
I know this is going to bring up some hate.
What about a 3.8 Commodore engine?
Reasons: A: cheap. B: Upgrades are fairly easy. C: 5 speed manual would be fun!
Im looking into this for my Project RA60. I am fairly sure the 21R-C in it is siezed.
HZJ75, RS41, JZZ30
3.8 commo engine has bin dun b4 saw one on ebay a while back
And a 1G is cheaper and quicker than a 3.8.
Beige.... The new Black!!!
and lighter too
and less aidz
- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
Aidz for the winnah!
My RA60 is going to be wrong.
Wrong engine. Wrong paint. Wrongness in every way.

I strongly recommend a 1GGTE conversion (very straightforward); otherwise sell the car.
Anything's possible but the 1J is just a little big to end up with a neat, affordable & easy result.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
the best way in my view is buy one that's already been done, clint may still have that 1jz ma61, it's in perth, but the cost of the car plus shipping will probably be the same if not cheaper than modding your RA65. cause you'll need engine, gearbox, diff, brakes not to mention the man hours involved.
my opinion, but i realise some people grow attached to there cars and perish the thought of selling them
1g just sorta fits.. 1j doesnt really but we've done it. gen 2 3s FTW.
the car is REALLY not ment to have an I6. 4 banger for sure.
gen2, 3y bell, stock box. wouldnt even need to change the tailshaft/transmission position.
possibly picking up an ra60 tomorrow. thats the reason why... considering that conversion. oversize hachi.. more track, more wheelbase which makes it ready for more power.
ive got an RA65 n was tinking about doing the same conversion. i was thinking 1G for a while but thought 1J would be ALOT better. ive seen a 2JZ conversion done to an AE86 a 1JZ conversion to an RA65 must be possible.
Just completed a 1ggte into ra60 (basically the same car with different pretty bits) and well worth it, few hassles, and i just Lurv these donks![]()
yes but the engine bay is designed to house a 4 cylinder engine, putting a big six in will make the car handle like arse.Originally Posted by Celica RA65

1ggte is a much better choice being a smaller engine, a 2L turbo engine is plenty for the size of the car.
If in doubt power out
