It never worked anyway so while the window is out for the paint job I'd like to remove the demister & add some darker tint.
Interesting. I have many RW's in vic and never had them check that.
Is it part of ADR's?
Rear demister isn't a legal requirement if its not fitted with one from the factory (eg ke20) - but i guess it may have come in with ADR changes in 75. Whether or not its required by law if you had it who knows.. Front is required obviously.Originally Posted by cuzzo

OK i checked up on this. Only forward glass is required to be free of mist as per ADR 15.
Rear windows are not required to have this & if the car has 2 external mirrors its OK to block vision through rear window completely.
Not that i really cared as its never worked and i want it gone completely before the real dark tint goes on.
So any tips for getting it off?
Hmm don't think many people would have removed THAT before ..
But try a scraping blade - the ones that you get from Bunnings or 2 dollar shop - the ones used to scrape off paint.
I have used it to remove window tint and works a treat.

fix it, it comes in handy, when you have 2 big meatheads in the back fogging up the glass its great.

If you do want to have a demister why wouldn't blowing hot air work? Same as what is used for the front windscreen. You could set it up with a couple of 12V hairdryers if need be. Only downside is that you would have to have vents put into the parcel shelf.
haha then a power invertor and would be 100 times easier and a million times cheaper to fix the existing unit.

I was thinking about removing my rear demister because it didn't work. First i removed the old tint with a 4" wide scraper and it didn't even look like removing the heater bars. Maybe a light acid could loosen it watch the paint though.
Even if you do remove it, the chances are it will still leave marks on the window.
The best way to remove it is with a heat gun and then with a rag use thinners.
Rosco
Tried a scraper & thinners and that got any remaining tint/glue, the solder and a bit of the demister tracks.
I think its going to take a bit to do it so I'll give the acid idea a try. Window is out of car so no problemswith paint or anything else.
I personally wouldnt remove it, I would fix it. As stated, it does come in handy. Also, darkest legal tint is either 30% or 35%, which is poo anyway, so anything darker is either illegal, or comes under the 2 wing mirrror blockout rule.
Oh yeah, hairdryers rigged up blowing air sounds a bit of gheyness. Plus then you have the problem of moisture condensation
Can I ask... what car is this for??
