i think magnas do?
As per title.
Chasing a switch for simple thermo fan install.
Will be mounted in 7mgte thermostat housing.
Will be running an 82 degrees thermostat.
Should i be opting for an 85 switch instead?

Go and grab a Tridon catalogue, has the temperature specs in it.
Cruzida posted up the Tridon catalogue a little while back, its in the FAQ now.
You'd want the fans to turn off above the thermostat opening temerature, otherwise once they come on they wont turn off again.
With an 82deg thermostat, maybe try something like on at 90, off at 85...
Cheers

i'm with Phil on this one.
...... butt scratcher?!
Yeah, I have an 82degC thermostat, and run the 95on-90off thermoswitch.
The car typically sits on 85degC during a warmish day on cruise, so perhaps could get up to 87degC on a 45degC day.
If your thermoswitch is 90on-85off, it may never turn off.
I've had mine running for about 18months, no issues yet.
TFS106 is the one I use

Me thinks that the judgements here are a little vague. Engine temperature is critical. Don’t want to run it too hot and don’t want to run too cool.
Most Toyotas have 82 deg thermostats and don’t seem to like higher temperatures, such as, for example a Camira which runs at some 95 deg if I recall correctly. Craig Davies suggests an approach that makes sense and requires you knowing where your temperature gauge usually operates. (http://www.daviescraig.com.au/docume...structions.pdf)
Alternately look at a later model Toyota that has an 82 deg thermostat and source a thermo switch from one of them. Or if you have an after market computer, let it take care of the switching.
In any event please take care as I managed to stuff my first 1ggte by having a poorly chosen thermo switch and running the engine at 92 deg.
Craig
My 1UZ has run the last 10,000km at 95-99degC.
Toyota motors can quite happily run at a higher temperature than normal.
Providing there is no loss of coolant, everything will be fine.
If a motor dies while the coolant is under 100degC, then it was going to die regardless.
Having it run hotter just sped up the time line.

I use a 85 on 80 off nissan switch, normally open single wire on my 302 - this would be fine for your poo 7m.
80 off would never turn off.

mine does, even cooling that worked tight ass motorOriginally Posted by CrUZida
about 50sec of fans going, then theyll be off for a couple of minutes then back on, about a 3 minute cycle. dont even come on, on the highway.
I use a 72" thermostat.
Yes, you run a 72deg thermostat.
With an 82deg thermostat it would never turn off.
And 72deg would be way too cold for a 7M

davies craig thermo fan controller ftw, bout $50 and you set it to what you want, set it to constant run for trac days....worth the cash...
blake
Do you mean the POS Davies Craig one with the copper probe you put in the radiator line?
Or like the Jaycar one that actually has an electronic sensor ?
