I have the brakets from yahoo Japan but am still unsure what exact FC p/n / size rotor to use and wether it is bolted to the hub in normal fasion or have to machine the hub down and put over with longer studs ??
Oldcorollas , mate I remember reading that same thread. I'm sure it was on clubae86? maybe by the guy who runs technotoytuning.. cant trust my memory though!
But in the real world and not just on paper.. This guy I know who has the FC calipers on the AE86 reckons it can almost stand on its front wheels if you get on the brakes hard enough, and have the traction of course.

The FC rotors have a rather large hat.. I reckon it'd have to go over the hub, if it it'll run into the control arm, strut, etc.
Thanks for clearing that up Stuart. As far as I am aware my statement does not make me narrow minded.Originally Posted by oldcorollas
A couple of mates and myself are currently in the process of soughting out a custom machined bracket to use RX7 calipers on an AE86.
We thought we were onto something when we found that an Audi A3 rotor was about the correct size to use a flat adaptor (cheap to machine) but when we got hold of the rotor it had too many holes in it and we couldnt drill out the PCD that we needed to bolt on the Sprinter hub!
So now we are probably going to use a Turbo Silvia rotor, which doesnt have the correct hat height to suit a flat adaptor, but you can offset the adaptor to suit (expensive to machine)
I would suggest checking out the old forums, there are CAD drawings for the silvia disk setup there.

or
if you want rx7 calipers on larger rotors woth 14"
eg/ek civic rotors (get mugen vented slotted ones)
and adaptor plates to mount
you have to shave the 'fins' off the rx7 calipers but then they fit under 14" wheels with mm to spare

I found this site a while ago regarding the same upgrade. I hope it helps

One thing with the Yahoo Japan (or any Aluminium caliper mount) is that getting an engineer to approve them as a modification to your braking system is very difficult. they have to verify that you have made it out of 6061or 7076 not just straight aluminium (which is hard to do). Some will just flat refuse to engineer them with aluminium brackets. Steel mounting brackets are much more engineer friendly. Note I am speaking about NSW RTA here this may or may not be the case in other states. For off street applications they are probably better as they are lighter.
Hey guys!!
I'm going to go out on a limb and ask a noobster question!!
What is the easiest/best value front brake upgrade for an AE86???
Do RDA make slotted and cross-drilled rotors for the 86?
If So what gains would that make??
What would be a general price range for a brake upgrade?
I saw an upgrade package on techno toys and he was asking $1200
Anyway just asking for budgeting future plans!!!

Best value is the ones coming out of the JDM AE86. The rotor is 18mm thick and is vented, compared to the ones that came on the Aussie Sprinters (12-12.5mm?).Originally Posted by cerby
Yep RDA does make them, they also do the JDM AE86 ones. I'm not quite sure about cross-drilled though. Truenosedan's your man to ask.
Better braking can be achieved as the rotors cool off easier. The caliper is the same (JDM vs. ADM) it's just that the JDM caliper is made to suit the 18mm rotor. One way to identify (as they look the same!) is that you'll see "2022" stamped on the JDM caliper. Whereas the ADM one has "2014" stamped (been a long time so can someone confrim this!).
The JDM calipers are hard to find but they would still be the cheapest in my opinion.
JDM caliper - 150-250
18mm thick rotor - 250-350?
Brake lines - 30-150ish.. depends on whether you want braided lines or not.
Brake pads -50-200ish depends on the pads.
And the JDM caliper and rotor will fit the ADM strut.
The 1200 brake upgrade (WHICH IS U.S by the way) is the WiIlwood ones. Expensive but would be good if your serious (like, REALLY serious).
Anyways bump my rep!!!
And David Lawson (Truenosedan) is the man to speak to when your interested in the rotors and pads. (Bump me up too!!!)
can somone give the website to this 1200 dollar brake upgrade
Where are these adpators from and what rotor are they to suit?Originally Posted by BlueAE86
