4speed auto, electronically controlled. Completely different box then the soarer, so no you cant use the ECU.![]()
Can somone tell me if the jzs147 aristo auto's are 4 or 5 speed auto's and what model auto is it.
Next question is, can i use a jzz30 soarer auto gearbox on the aristo ecu. Will the ecu control the soarer auto properly.

What makes it electronically different?Originally Posted by sbyder
I've got a V8 Soarer ecu running a V8 Crown box.
They are both 4 speed, both have 4 solenoids, they have different sensors on the outside, but they can be swapped over easily enough.

According to MV Automatics the 2JZ-GTE A340 is vastly different to other A340's, both in terms of mechanical internals and electronic control, to the point they can't really be considered the same box. I don't have any specific info but those guys are experts on Toyota autos.

What's the 4th solenoid Peewee?
There are a few different JZZ30 autos - some are electrically similar, others are different.
The main difference is electronically controlled line pressure on Aristos and the later soarer models (where it changes over I can't say, but I'd suspect 97).
They also differ in the type, function and number of pulses on the speed sensors.
IE Aristo has a vehicle speed sensor and auto sensor (SP2, 4ppr).
1JZ VVTi JZZ30 only has the auto speed sensor (SP2 12ppr).
Earlier JZZ30s would have a vehicle speed sensor and SP2 (4ppr probably).
The Aristo has an external ATF temperature sensor, whereas the later JZZ30 temp sensor is internal.
To complicate matters there are also boxes that have electronically controlled accumulator pressure - the VVTi LS400 auto has this, so I'd expect the VVTi SC400 to have it also.
The 1JZ torque converters are also a lot smaller than the 2JZ converters, and most probably do not fit the splines (not confirmed just suspicion based on other similarly sized converters not fitting).

The Aristo box has FIVE solenoids in it!
S2, ATM No2 solenoid
S1, ATM No1 solenoid These 2 do gear selection as in all A340's.
SLT-, ATM SLT solenoid = line pressure.
SLN, ATM SLN solenoid = Accumulator pressure
SLU-, ATM SLU solenoid = Torque converter
1JZ converters stall to like 3000rpm even on a 1J. 2JZ converters only go to 2000rpm. If I could fit a 1J converter in mine I would but yeah, the splines are wrong.
4th solenoid was not on the early A340E's, only the the A341E's (or possibly only the V8 tranny's and not the 1JZ tranny's)Originally Posted by Mos
Its for shift pressure, or shift quality or something.

In addition the MV autos shift kit for the Aristo box isnt just a hard shift kit its positively brutal. The suspected thing is that it runs a higher shift pressure than the Supra (and other) boxes.

Having driven an Aristo with said shift kit I fully agree, it really thumps through the gears!

Stage one isn't brutal at all on my mates Aristo. I am getting a 1.5 for mine as I thought the stage one was a pit pansy. I guess we are both talking about Dans car Norbie? I would say perceived shift firmness is up to the individual.
Heh, the shift kit which PlacentaJuan has in his Aristo powered MX83 is brutal to the max, feels like the gear is about to break. (i.e. flatchanging a R154)

Well it's by far the firmest shifting auto I've ever experienced, but then again I've only driven stock autos before so yeah I guess it's all relative.Originally Posted by 2JZR31

You know your auto shifts hard when it chirps every gear at any engine loads.![]()
Dans feels firmer than stock when cruising but the only time it will chirp is when you change from first to second manually. So its not that brutal in terms of what some auto cars do.
