Default Difference between Ke70, Te72 and stuff

What are the differences between the ke70, Te72 and AE71?
Which of these cars shares the same chassis as the 86, and which can have a 4A-GE installed fairly easily?

    All help appreciated

All are pretty much the same, and all can happily swallow a 4AG. TE71, 72 have recirculating turd steering however, so you're best stealing the parts from one of the others and making it rack+pinion. AE71 is your best bet for being findable, cheap, and easy to fit a 4AG.

    ^^^^ what he said.

AE71 is the go. AE71 has 4AC stock instead of 4K in KE70 which means the 4A-GE will bolt up. Also has hydraulic clutch.

If you get the KE u'll have to find an AE crossmember and swap the hydraulic clutch for starters.

KE70 and AE71 have borg warner diff...ADM 86's are S series. Both pretty average but the borgie is cheap, plentiful and fairly strong.

KE square front/slant front....AE only slant front....

Have a search...there's heaps and heaps of info on the swap. Also info of the subtle differences btwn the 71 and 86 chassis...

    Hi,

So the 4AG won't stress the diff or gearbox of an AE71?

No need to do brake mods or anything like that? Just whack it in?

And the big question, can you put the 4AG into an auto AE71 and retian the auto. Why? Well, if it's an auto then others at home can drive it, and it stops me from being a taxi driver.

This may sound stupid, but can anyone link me to a picture of an AE71, because i google searched it and all of the photos were of 86s. Also, what lsd options are available for an AE71?

Again, i appologise for my noobness.

All stock diffs and brakes are CRAP - especially the bog warmer diffs. Anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't tried too hard! After you break half a dozen diffs, do a conversion. Also, do something with the brakes and suspension - box Corollas can be good fun to play with. My KE70 used to have a 4AG, Hilux diff (4.3, LSD), R33 brakes (the 300mm 4 pot nissan ones), semi slick tyres, suspension, etc. and I loved that little car - all it needed was a better engine.

They're a good car to learn about stuff on, easy and fun to pull apart and fit other stuff to.

    Here's a pic of mine ATM....slant front...

The T50 gearbox in the AE71 is essentially the same as the JDM one that comes stock on the 86. If the engines NA and not SC or turbs then the box will last...otherwise go W series....but that's a whole other thread.

Good point tho because if you buy a KE or TE you'll also have to source a gearbox. The AE comes with one that'll bolt up....

As far as the auto never heard of it being done before. Don;t think it'd be worth the $ or the buggering around as the engines not that torquey...

Brakes....stocko AE/KE are a bit small but prob ok for street use. I'm running ADM AE86 struts and brakes. Bit bigger....

Jesus mrshin....overkill? You could have run a 2JZ in there....
What were you running for rear brakes? Sounds like quite the setup...

Above is the link of our build up.

Mr Shin is right they are a good car to learn off as parts and cheap and plentiful and are a very basic car to start with

Nah, not overkill, just using bits that I came across/had lying around and found worked quite well. Rears? Always meant to put discs on there, but poor car died (sad, sad day!) before I got round to tossing the Hilux drums.

    For the years etc go.....HERE

As far as front back pics. Back is the same as KE70....front looks like below, but then again some younger KE70s look the same. If it's 1.6l not 1.3 then it's an AE71.

    Hi,

Cool... mine is a CSX model. Top of the range in it's day, baby!!!

It's got a digital clock and air con, and it had a tape unit - but that was stuffed so I put in a CD receiver.

I'd like a more powerful engine, but the old 4AC never dies, it just keeps on keeping on - albeit in a sedate manner - and I can't complain about the mpg it gets. I bought it as a cheap run about and I can't fault it in anyway in doing this task.

    just thought id contribute
ae86 crossmember bolts directly into te71 (probs 72) then can just bolt in 20v 4age with ae86/ae71 t50 gearbox. all bolts straight in. this is confirmed.

im sure the 71/72 struts will then bolt up all good too. will be able to confirm this monday.

    cheers
