Yes a standard boost gauge will work on a diesel, although it will never read vacuum because a diesel has no throttle plate.
Just wondering, with a turbo diesel, if one wants to hook up a boost gauge, does it still work off vacuum?
i.e. a standard boost gauge should work on a diesel?

they do however have a vacuum pump...wont read it, but diesels do have vacuum, just not generated by shutting throttle...

Punctuation is the difference between 'I helped my Uncle Jack off his horse' and 'I helped my uncle jack off his horse.'
but irrelevant to the question.Originally Posted by love ke70
yes you can hook up a boost gauge and it will read less than atmospheric when off boost, just not like a petrol engine, because like Norbie said, they don't have a throttle.Originally Posted by Norbie
and for the physics of it, in order to get a flow you must have a pressure differnce. you convert the potential energy of pressure into kinetic energy of flow -> so increase flow = decrease pressure [means increase pressure difference]
1. There's no point arguing with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
2. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference
and as the question had been answered a little extra info wasnt going to hurt anyone.Originally Posted by ta23-mbzq-nnr
