you almost deserve neg rep for that.

what ecu? what engine? what quality of tune?

If you're whacking a microtech on a stock 1j and paying Croydon for a dyno queen tune, under $3k

If you're running a tits TT 1gz with a full motec setup and tune, you're looking at closer to $10k

I have no idea what ECU i want.. I dont know anything about them.. I tossing it up for my 22re.. So it would need to be as Cheap and basic as it can get otherwise its not cost affective.. I spose what i want to know is whats the cheapest you can get away with when doing this.. Just a rough its gonna cost this much for the ECU and this much to tune it..

If i still need to be more specific ill go learn a bit about them first..

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

is there a reason why you're going an aftermarket ECU on a 22R? that's a lot of money to spend on a shitty engine

ECU - Few hundred for an ordinary second hander off Ebay, $5000+ for a good Motec

Fitting - Few hundred for fittings and sensors etc if you do it yourself with bits from the wreckers, $1000++ if you pay someone else to do it all with new parts.

Tuning - $500 for a quickie job, or as much as you're prepared to pay to get it right.

Also depends on the configuration of the motor and what extras you need to get like injectors, throttle bodies, coils, sensors, fuel pumps etc that add $$$$$$$

The reason im looking at doing this is im planning on supercharging it so might need a new ECU.. Just tossing it up atm moment.. Thanks for that crazyracer pretty much exactly what i wanted...

Does anything think my stock ECU on my 86 RT142 will cop 6psi from a SC14?

I wouldn't have thought a standard NA ECU would cope too well with being blown.

A cheapy after market ECU would have a better chance.

Theres a couple of Microtechs on ebay at the moment. A screwdriver adjustable D4 for $20 and a sequential MT8 thats at $200 at the moment.

Not sure on the details of these as I've always had Motec, but might be a good starting point.

Microtech's are customised for a particular engine combination. I'd be steering clear. To be honest, I wouldn't bother doing anything so major to a 22RE. Spend your money on an engine conversion, it'll be cheaper, more powerful and less stressful in the end.

but if you really want to supercharge it, the mega squirt and spark is probably the best option or an older wolf or something.

Or if he wants something which just works and doesn't have to be fiddled with, anything but a Megasquirt would be the best option.

Pretty much any ECU will run a supercharged 22R-E, so decide on a budget and go from there. As mentioned there's a huge price difference from the cheapest to the most expensive ECU on the market.

Whether your supercharged 22R-E idea is worth doing in the first place is another matter entirely. The smart option would be a 1G swap, you don't even need an aftermarket ECU and it will almost certainly end up being cheaper overall.

i'd go with the megasquirt, there are a few guys on msefi forums running them on 22re's with a turbo, just ask them for the tuning maps. you'll be suprised

Hmm Thanks for all the advise.. I probably will do a 1G in the future but i want to try this out first.. I just found out my cousin can tune it for me so theres a saving.. Does anyone know much about the $20 ECU ebay special? Will it work for what i want considering its a 22re and i dont want to spend heaps on it... I just want it to run reasonable ok with the SC14.. Will i need to buy software for it or does it come with it?

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

I just saw this first when i looked on ebay.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Microtech-D5-...QQcmdZViewItem

Do you use it like a secondary ECU which looks after the fuel side of things or is it a complete replacement ECU.. I dont know much about this sort of thing.. How does it work..

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

this in essence is like a piggyback ECU to your main ECU to allow it to run the EFI and fuel maps for the motor.

personally myself i wouldnt go near anything like you have shown ^ your just asking for trouble, for things like ECU dont go cheap and nasty and have fuck ups,
look for something like an early Microtech, it will be your best bet mate.

if you want to learn a lot => megasquirt

if you want it to run by throwing cash at it => haltech (2nd hand E6S or newer) or microtech (that's programable)

if you want it in a world of pain => analog D5 or some kind of piggyback.

none of these mean shit if you have a budge of $20. You're looking at several grand worth of parts, labour and your time. Plus rebuilding an engine to suit boost.

Personally, i'd stick with the 22RE, put the SC14/12 in the cupboard for a while, learn about your NA EFI engine (e.g. wire it up, tune it, kill it, etc) then - when you feel confident - fabricate what you need to go forced induction.
