Engines are "good" or "bad" depending on there application.
Old Morris 1ltrs are great, but you wouldnt put one in a drag car.
You want to put a 1G in a hilux. I wouldnt do it, because the 1G is a very small six, with very short strokes and no torque. When your hauling things around in the back you need torque, not HP so the huge HP numbers youve seen in your "search" are meaning less.
However, they are very easy to chuck in straigh on the 22R mounts.
A "good" engine for a hilux would be what ever toyota are putting in there new hilux, or a LS1 (cause everyone loves it when i say that).
