    Default Turbo on 22R?

Can a turbo be fitted to a 22r engine?Ive got a 85 model landcruiser bundera that id like to get some more power out of without doing a massive engine re-fit.

    Heres what it hauls around.

    In short, Yes.

In long, you will need custom exhaust manifold, 22RE efi setup and a programmable ECU to do it properly. A turbo off a 3SGTE would make for good torque.

Exhaust shop should, or an engineering shop.

    gday stumped mate

a supercharger would be an easier option i rekon
you want the low down torque off road

Hmm yeah maybe i should have worded this thread "how to get more out of a 22R" im not looking for huge gains just looking to make it a bit more "towing freindly"

    Thanks for the replys!

Yeah stumper... any mod you do is going to cost. A well setup turbo system will have significant low down towing torque gains. For minimal cost, a towing grind cam will give you the easiest gains. A supercharger is usually pretty good for torque, but lining up the belts can be difficult.

A diesel engine would be a PITA as you need to completely change over the fuelling system... whereas an EFI setup just requires a pump to be put at the base of your tank (dont need a suction pump and surge tank unless you intend on running high speed corners)

The options are far and wide, depends what sort of effort you wish to go to.

Thanks for the replys, Im thinking a cam and some port/head work graph the dizzy type engine might be worth a try.

Its just that the bundera is the most compact half decent 4wd to get into tight spots so id like to keep it,i might try keeping a budget of around 2k with myself and a mechanic mate doing the labor.

Thanks again and if anyone has any tips on this engine id much apeciate hearing them.

2k and you should be able to slot a little turbo on. CT20s can be picked up cheap, and will give a 22R good torque. The injection set can be found on any RT142 corona... just look for a crashed one going for a couple of hundred bucks. If its a solid diff RT142 avante with rear disks, you can sell the rear disks to fit AE86 rollas and RWD celicas for a couple of hundred usually.

An Adaptronic ECU will get you going for a touch over a grand, and if you can work a MIG, then a custom exhaust manifold shouldnt cost you much to put together.
