Default What type of grease goes on suspension bushes?

Quick question guys, what kind of grease is that white stuff that you put on suspension bushes? If its something hard to find, what alternatives are there?

I gotta replace a control arm and would like to transfer my fairly new nolothane bushes from the bent one to the less bent one, but i dont have any of that grease left.

    Cheers,
    Andy

I thought the grease for nolathane bushes was grey and the one for noltec was white but anyway.
Just head into any suspension shop like Pedders and they should have a heap of the satchels laying around, Would be a few $$$ at most or they just won't charge you for it.
My sig has been pruned as it was over 5 lines long.

Exactly, and i wouldnt use the crap u get when u buy new bushes, i assume these are urethane, so use HEAPS otherwise they will squeek like something shocking.

Basically you want a silicone or PTFE based lubricant. Something that wont wash off with water. Just make sure it's not petroleum based, as they will eat the urethane and cause premature failure.
Although there are numerous brands of grease specially formulated for (poly) urethane, so finding some shouldn't be a problem.

Isn't it the same as CV joint grease?

CV joint grease is generally a moly based grease, and is suited to high pressure and sliding loads.
It works into the metal and provides a molecular coating of moly which prevents direct metal contact. Just don't use it in bearings, as it tends to clog them up and seizes them ('patches' of moly build up on the ball races and cause friction points that bind the ball bearings).
So as long as it won't attack the urethane, it should be ok to use.

This link does specify an inorganic substrate, just make sure it isn't a petroleum base. The benefits listed almost seem it was made for this purpose....

Here their grease is specified for use on bushings...

moly grease will be fine..... like the valvoline stuff.

you will find its what comes with nolethane bushes anyway.

trick is to not get too carried away with the stuff as nolethane bushes wont "absorb" grease like rubber .... so all that is needed is a thin smear to lubricate the bush and the part it is in contact with.

Using too much grease will just make a mess.
