Question Aristo JZS147: Auto to Manual Conversion?

Whats the best option for converting an Aristo JZS147 over to a manual trans? as far as budget I thought a toyota 5spd would be best as the 6spd is still so expensive! but Im no sure which type to get!

If anyone has done this before and could point me in the right direction as to what parts they used, costs etc -

I would be greatful for any info shared!

    Cheers - SP

Get the soarer R154 if you cant afford the Getrag. You will need to cover costs like:

    Relocating/modifying/removing the foot parking brake.
    Clutch/flywheel/linkages.
    Clutch master cylinder.
Complete Pedal assembly from a soarer or supra, whichever you use.
    Customised tailshaft.
    Mods to centre consol.

And thats only the things i can think of ATM...

If you dont have over 3K to spend, i think you be better off building a tough auto and putting a MV manualised shifter on it.

1800kg + 2JZ torque = lots of drivetrain stress. If you're going to all this effort, buy the 6-speed! I'd feel a bit nervous about an R154, it might hold up but then again it might not...

Why does everyone feel the need to convert these to manual?!? They are fast cruising cars, not track cars!

    because manual is teh fun

im with norbie, you get what you pay for.

however a fresh R154 should be up to the task, just dont get a thrashed box (ewwww)...

i dont think a stock, or mildly modded 2JZ will be enough to kill the R154 unless you have a severe hate for your driveline. no clutch dumps at 6000 RPM in second ya hear?!

It's all about the clutch. With a harsh button clutch (which may actually be necessary with this setup) I reckon the R154 will have a hard time, no matter how gentle you try to be with it. You've got to realise the 2JZ with stock twins generates a mountain of torque from low RPM, and it's torque which wreaks havoc on drivetrains!
