I'd be more inclined to use silicon reducers to attach 2.5" intercooler pipes to the 3" fittings on the core. You shouldn't need 3" intercooler pipes.
Hey guys im looking at getting a new Intercooler it has 3 inch outlets im just wondering how it would fit on to the throttle body and turbos on my 1JZ i would check on my motor itself but the cooler is on ebay and ends today any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Pete

I have done as stated by the above post
If you miss out on the ebay item or havnt bidded yet check out justjap.com, they have a large range of cheep coolers in many sizes with both 3" or 2.5" outlets
Yea i wasnt sure so i thought i would just check as there are a few on there from Just Jap so either one will work as im looking at converting to single turbo in the future.
Pete
I spose how "crazy" a power figure you want out of your single setup will give you your answer
3" can be done if needed but on stock twins it would be a bit of an overkill
Nah nothin to crazy id be happy with 250kw but thats still a while of i think ill just go with the 2.5 outlet intercooler.

When you get your cooler think about how much space youve got, where your running your pipes and how tight your bends have to be before you pick a size. I wish i had gone 2" instead of 2 1/2" because while it may cost me 5kw, it would have made the pipework so much easier. provided the piping isnt smaller then the exducer of the turbo it should'nt be a restriction anyway.
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
I've got 3". fits up to the throttle body nicely (you could maybe strech the 2"5 silicon to fit or run a 3"-2.5" reducer), the turbo collector outlet is 2.5" but I've modified mine to 3" also. Going into the celica I would as get every thing else soughted and then work out how much space you have.
I wouldn't worry abotu the 'lag' from larger piping I didn't notice any lose in response from the stock to 3" aluminium. Although 2.5" will probably flow more then enought for what you want!![]()
Sorry to clarify, the stock throttle body OD is about 2.75" + or there abouts. So the 3" clamps down on it nice, or you could try strach a 2.5 up (tho I recon the reducer would be easier!![]()
I have 3" outlets on my cooler but have used 2.5" pipe (this is on a 2JZ). Unless you're running eleventy billion hp there's no reason to have 3" pipe, it's just extra expense and extra hassle for no benefit. In most cases it's much harder to install 3" pipe, especially if you need any tight radius bends.

Yea thats what i was thinking as im ready to mount the radiator and intercoolerand get everything else mocked up as the engine and gearbox is already in.
Cheers Pete
The outlet from the turbos on my 1JZ is ~2.25" OD
The throttle body inlet size is ~2.75" OD
I use 2.5" pipe with an intercooler with 3" inlets (reducers). I step down from the TB with a reducer. At the turbo outlet I have a section of straight 2.25" hose and my IC pipe has a metal 2.5" -> 2.25" reducer.
Just what I have done!
Cheers
Wilbo
im also running 2.5" pipes into a 3" cooler on my 1g ra23, fits through the front with minimal cutting too!
What size cooler are you running in your 23?
Pete
I have the same setup as Wilbo, works well. 244rwkw on the twins. I also had one end of the just-jap intercooler chopped off and re-welded upside down, so that the air comes in the top left and exits on the bottom right. Not sure if this makes any difference at all compared to the normal setup.
I am running a 600x300x76mm cooler, but I'd possibly consider a 450mm (100 thick) if I had my way again as it makes the plumbing a ton easier.
