Default grinding down a brake pad?

Were trying to get some brembo calipers for our racecar, and they come in two varieties. For 5mm and 4mm thick discs. Our rotors have been designed as 5mm, and theyre already so small that i dont want to go down to 4mm. But theres a back order on the 5mm calipers, and the supplier can get us 4mm at a very discounted price.

so... is it possible to grind down each pad 0.5mm so we can run 5mm discs? The 4mm caliper actually has a +- 0.5mm tolerance on the disc thickness, so really would only have to grind down each pad 0.25mm. If it is possible, anywhere in SA thatd be willing to do so? theyre sintered pads btw, not your normal critters.

For that sort of thickness id just do it my self.

Get a sheet of 300 grit sand paper place the sand paper on a piece of glass ( something flat) and rub the pad down .5mm

To take .5mm off this way will be a piece of cake and will still be square.

Or if you wanted to be really fancy you could pull the pistons out and take .5mm off of the top of them.

grind it wet, should keep the dust on the paper and glass, and out of your lungs.

step out side, rub it on any piece of concrete....

of if you have a bench grinder, and the pads will sit on the SIDE of the grinding face....this way only takes 0.2 seconds

5mm DISCS? these for a bike or something?

to take that much pad material off, I'd use the side of a grinder wheel, nice and quick.

Id stick with the dong it by hand. It takse longer but you will find that you can grind the pad down alot more evenly.
