I want to get more power out of my Ra65 Celica 22Re motor are then any easy ways to get more power from it or would it be worth swapping engines if so are there any suggestions

    Thanks

probably could have tried searching this first bud, but anyway, the most common/feasible conversions around seem either the 1G-GT/ZE or a 3S-GTE.

the general consensus with 22RE's is that they aren't really worth modifying. its been done heaps in the US with some success, but from an economic standpoint, you might as well swap in one of the above mentioned engines.

if you're a p-plater, there are also N/A versions available.

edit: btw, keep in mind the 3S series engines are a FWD layout engine so to get them to fit, a bit of fabrication and ingenuity is needed. it is possible though.

The 3sgte is not feasible or amatuers unless you pay a workshop, and becomes more than your usual transplant... for example, cut and shut intake manifold, change ignition setup or modify the firewall etc etc, it is a east west engine and therefore wasnt designed with north south in mind.

1ggt/ze <-- probably the most common, with good info out there.
    1jz
    3rz
    1uzfe

just to name a few anything is possible, budget etc.. search through ra65s on here for a start it will give you an idea of whats best for you and what work is involved.

What do you call more power... extractors, exhaust and a bit of head work is about your limit without spending big money, even headwork is big money for little gain.

yeah i probably should have mentioned that about the 3S-GTE..

for that matter, the 1JZ and 1UZ probably aren't much easier. i don't think anyone has done a 1UZ into a celica, but i know timottaway has done a 1JZ. PM him if you want more info on that

    yeah i spose that helps

i think only trouble with the JZ's and UZ is the size. the celica bays are smaller than the supra bays cause they were only really designed for 4 cylinders.

i may be proved wrong though. i usually am haha

Don't forget the RWD 3SGTE's in the Altezzas!

There was a members thread which did a 3SGTE rwd conversion and used all stock parts i think it was. Dunno what it was into though. I'll try and find it.

3S-GE.. not 3S-GTE. they weren't turbo'd. they can be though

but yes, the price of them would be the biggest hurdle to get over. they would be a sweet engine to stick in an RA65 though.

Oh yeh woops! They were only 20valves wernt they?

Never tried finding one but i'd imagine they'd be on the harder to find scale of things.

umm.. 16 valves bud. but dual vvti as a plus.

but 210hp stock and a 6 speed box to boot, makes them a sexy engine. dammit! if only we could get altezza's (the RS200's) in aus

the engines are available, but just not as common as most others. i've seen a few advertised on the internet somewhere

I'm going to hazard a guess that the original poster doesn't have the budget to do any of the engine conversions listed so far. You don't ask about "easy ways" to get power out of a 22R if you're flush with money!

That being the case, I'll suggest the 1G-GTE as the cheapest engine conversion with a worthwhile outcome. If you don't have the $5k+ budget to do it properly you're pretty much stuck with the 22R, but I wouldn't recommend going any further than exhaust and inlet mods with one of them.

A small turbo or supercharger on the 22RE with an aftermarket computer can yield good results. You will need to do some port work to help it flow, and put in ARP head studs to stop it getting 7M disease though.

1UZFE has been put into Celicas before, its even currently being done into a TA22 with GTR skyline AWD and twin turbos... so its possible, but not practical.

1JZ is quite fit-able, but cost might blow way out. 1G motors certainly will give you the best bang for buck.

All will depend on what you can do/are comfortable with doing yourself. If your not very confident or experienced, I would stick with modding the 22RE. If you have anything like an L or P plate restricting you, wait till you have your open licence, save your pennies till then.
