I run a magnetic cas, works good never had a problem..
What held up the wires up when it was standard.
im pretty sure the witzl has covered how to turn a dizzy into a cas or the hen or someone cluey on here.... run a quick search.
What are you opinions and why? Hall effect (optical) or Magnetic.
I have been using the hall effect (optical) sensor in my dizzy for a while now.
I have had some intermittent problems with it over the time, usually because of the tiny little wires do not like holding up the plug up while vibrating near an engine doing 6 or so grand.
I need to find a nice way to mount two sensors (Main and sync) inside my dizzy housing, It does not matter if it is one of each but I do not want to put the sensors down on the crank pulley. Been thinking of pulling the guts from a crank angle sensor and using that.
Idea's? Suggestions?

hall effect is NOT optical, optical would have to involve light (unless i have my terminology all ass backwards)

i think "inductive" is the word you may be searching for.
are your wires nicely shielde? this makes a huge difference on inductive systems, not too sure about the rest.
Hall effect is by far the best sensors to use for CAS.

Remember that the poor product remains long after the cheap price has been forgotten............
Hall Effect is a more reliable form of magnetic pickup.
There are three main type of electronic dissy sensors:
- Variable Reluctance (VR) = what Toyota uses... http://www.infolytica.com/en/coolstuff/ex0128/
- Hall Effect = What mitsubishi uses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_effect
- Optical = what Nissan uses.
VR signals are pretty reliable, when coupled with the right zero-crossing circuit to convert the analogue signal to a digial pulse.
Hall Effect and Optical are both pretty reliable. Myself i prefer hall effect as it is not as prone to problems with dust and objects that optical is. They work on similar principles..... there is a gap, and a "vane" passes through this gap. When the vane is not there, a pulse in generated.
Hall effect works by magnetic field being interrupted.
Optical works by light being interrupted.
Please dont confuse them all.
...... butt scratcher?!
Toyota uses a lot of VR sensors for timing & CAS and nearly all wheel sensors for ABS are VR... i vote for something that doesn't need a power supply.
I have this set up in my 2T-G:

I forgot to show you when I had the chance at the cruise. I hope that problem you had was the last of it.
