ive only ever seen one type from hks for map engines
http://www.xspeed.com.au/shop/produc...oducts_id=1839
I dont know why you would pay $250+ though for something you can make for less than $5 and have the same result
Im in need of a FCD for my 1j and need to confirm if i use a hks product is it there standard type the one that i require as there are several they make.
Can anyone confirm this?

HKS do make many different types! They are generally manufactured to suit certain applications. Greddy make them also. I was using a Greddy one on my car for a while. worked pretty damn good too![]()

you can make the same thing for less than 50 cents.
will do same job, just wont have HKS/Greddy written on it.
Elmo.
but is it adjustable? I would pay the $100 to get a HKS adjustable one if I had light mods. I know you can install a pot as well to adjust it but unsure how well they can be adjusted.
adjustble = safc/e-manage.
id pay 50c over $100 any day of the week man, hell, i should start putting them together, labelling them fancy and selling them for $100 with "EDO Performanz" on it.
Elmo.
Diesiltrain and Ribfeast are seriously repping the adjustable FCD's at the moment!
I would probably end up going safc or emanage as well but for costs 50c for something that you can't tune, $100 for something that you can tune for above 15psi or $300+ for something that you can tune for a various tuning points.
They are crude but they do work![]()
no use telling me that you'd reccomend the e-manage, you know i got one
im just saying, for the price, i dont think the hks units are worth it.
but that is my opinion, and i stress that fact to everyone!
Elmo.
I know this may sound a bit stupid but im new to whole turbo injection motors and thought i should find out as im putting a 1JZ in my RA-23 what does the fuel cut defender do? Thanks in advance.

Here it is right here http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23121
avoids fuel cut.
basically, it clamps the MAP's votage at a set level in order to stop the ECU seeing the reading that will trigger the fuel cut.
on 1J i think 14-14.5psi/1BAR is the max? ( when i played around with mine i had a MINES ecu, no fuel cut, so i dont actually know)
Elmo.
1bar exactly elmo.
avoiding FCD's or not, using it in conjunction with a SAFC of some type.
i think my post was deleted priorbut i have a Greddy copy FCS to whack in mine, adjustable, i'll install for now to minimise the effect of cutting, then a boost controller and safc to follow to run it safely.
Has anyone tried the Jaycar FCD kit yet?
I'm keen as to get someone's feedback!!
...... butt scratcher?!
Sorry Pete i wasnt having ago at youOriginally Posted by pete05

The one i had made is a half decent one compared to the basic trimpot designs out there where you simply turn the trimpot untill the fuel cut goes away
My one you set the clamp voltage with a multimeter and away you go, the same way the gizzmo and hks units work
Now the following is a lot of hearsay but its what i could find out when i was setting up mine so please dont flame me if its wrong
1j map sensor reads to 15psi 5v
fuel cut is at 13.8psi 4.32v
I have set mine to 3.8v clamp and it seems to work fine. This clamp voltage is also what the gizzmo controller instruction say to set it to.
Will let you know of the afr's with this clamp voltage after the next dyno day
