    Default Modifying the Beams 3S

This is an interesting little resource for anyone contemplating modifying the Beams 3S-GE out of the Altezza. There has been a lot of talk about it not being feasible to get much more than stock power out of them but TRD have made an extra 44KW and an extra 29Nm of torque with the engine staying NA.

100kw/L not too shabby!... thought its lucky it reached its peak hp a mere 200rpm short of its 8800rpm redline!!

and its not exactly runnning the biggest cams in the business either (296deg) - though itd be nice to know the 50' figures

Glenn's getting a little more me thinks.....but there has been a shiteload of development there. He is however running those ridiculous TRD extractors - they look the biz. Genuine improvement on the dyno over the whole rev range. He's also running dual VVTi - I won't say too much more though - not really sure how much he wishes to divulge.

From memory the 13mm lift cams are about 256 @ 50 thou lift.

It would be interesting to see what the specs of Bate's RS200 that he used in targa a few years ago, as that sounded bloody fantastic.

    Anyone know ?

No one should really be surprised by this as except for the VVti set-up these are the outputs they were getting when Toyota GB ran a pair of UK made Carina's in the British Touring Car Championship, back in the late 80's / early 90's.
And I remember reading an old Lexus press release on the net that quoted Neal a few years ago who mentioned the sort of mods he had done to his special RS200 Altezza and it was not all that much really, if memory serves.
    Cheers,

'scuse me while I spank it! That is so hot. I envisage placing something similar in my RA23 in a number of years. It'd be nice to see the bottom rpm range of that second dyno graph. That'd really show the worth of VVT-i (maybe it idles at 4000rpm too ). It's interesting to see that the torque peaks earlier too.. probably due to the headers.

Anybody know about the rods in the BEAMS engine? I note that the engine shown uses the original rods.. And at 8800 rpm, mean piston velocity is 4966ft/min. Ouch.

Oh, and I presume those pricelists are in yen? Ouch again!

It list the part number for conrods and pistons so I would assume they aren't the original rods.

Whats interesting to note is that they dont show torque figures below 4000rpm in the improved graph.

my guess is that this extra peak power has come at a cost

that power is with out the vvti enabled so thats why it aint that good but it does idle at 900rpm and there isnt much power till 4500 rpm been there done this but i didnt use the 13.5to 1 comp i was using 12to 1to run on pump fuel as against 6 dollars for the ELF racing fuel .
but the new motor with vvti enabled idles at 750 now and power is from 3000 rpm till 8800 and has a flater torque curve from 4000 till 8800rpm as well better all round
the 1st motor made 145rwkws the new 1makes 164,8 rwkws and the 1 on the engine stand im aiming for 180rwkws

All praise to VVT-i! With a rough calculation, that's around 250kW at the fly... Kinda puts the TRD engine to shame. Is this in a track car?
