Default Volumetric efficiency for a 7MGTE?

    Ey all,

Does anybody have an educated estimate (or better still some hard facts from an engine dyno'd stock 7MGTE) as to what the volumetric efficiency of a stock 7M would be, I'm thinking somewhere arounds 88-92% but that's complete speculation..

    Thanks alot guys,
    Ashlin.

there is a formula for doing it, something like power / capacity x revs- just google it.

Well if it's a GTE then it'll be well over 100% as it's boosted.
If it's about 7psi boost then it'd be (very roughly) about 150% VE.

what torque at what boost does it make stock?

7M is 3L, so as a very very rough base, take 300Nm as 100% VE, then do as Bill suggested.. the VE will be the % of the 300 x (1+boost)

Is this for turbo compressor choice? As I have only used the n/a VE estimate of 90% for 1j when calculating the amount of air ingested.

if not, then don't worry about me

    Thanks for the replys guys,

And Sorry, i should have clarified.. As Chris correctly asked, this is to help select a turbo compressor, and as such i guess i need the Ve of a 7mge with a CR of 8.4:1 (well, thats if having a turbo compression ratio effects the Ve?)

for turbo compressor sizing calculate Ve with out boost and then apply that value to turbo sizing calculation

yep cheers, it's calculating the Ve I'm not to sure about, I'll probably end up just following the consensus of other 7m users in the states anyway.. I don't want to change my exhaust mani or dump pipe, so that limits my choices, and i don't want to spend heaps of money.. so that limits me further still..

Will probably end up going with a journal bearing SP61GT, a Turbonetics 60-1 or just my current CT26 high flowed locally by JPS, won't deliver the bottom end response I'm after but will deliver reasonable numbers and won't break the bank *shrugs*

what is the stock torque of the 7MGE or the 7MGTE (with the stock boost level)?

    From the M-Engine wiki,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_M_engine

    GTE
Output was 232 hp (173 kW) at 5600 rpm and 240 ft·lbf (325 Nm) at 4000 rpm for most 5 lbf/inČ/0.35 bar versions.
    GE
    Output was 190-204 hp (142-152 kW) at 6000 rpm and 185-196 ft·lbf (250-265 Nm) at 4800 rpm.

    GE, 250-265Nm from 3L = 250/300 or 265/300 = 83% - 88% VE

for GTE, 0.35bar = 1.35 absolute bar so should get 405Nm
325/405 = 80% VE (but this is probably due to the ultra-safe tune used by toyota)

(edit:, this is rough as guts, but at least a starting point)

Hmm, that means that if the 1jz is similar VE to the 7m-gte I have over estimated VE and therefore artificially increased the amount of air consumed by the engine which AFAIK would then make a turbo seem like it was out of its efficiency range earlier. Hmm... May redo em with lower number and see what sort of diff there is.

the 1JZTE was 363nm? from how much boost?

90% is not a bad starting point, but....

    awesome thanks again,

So the Ve i should be pumping into my calculations is say .80 - .85? as i'm using a 7mgte and will have aftermarket engine management?
