    Default vacuum gauge on sidedrafts?

i got a vacuum gauge for engine diagnostics in cabin and and been trying to suss out how to hook it up as they usually go to the intake manifold of a shared carb but with sidedrafts its individual intake runners.

its possible to hook it up to 1 runner but thats going to only be for 1 cylinder surely and not the whole engine?

and if you link all runners together and then the gauge i suspect it may
affect the running of the carbs from their being an air connection flowing from one carb to the other? maybe not?

well im thinking along the lines of linking them up through 4 isolators
and then the gauge but im not sure if you can get isolators too suit and if they are expensive or would affect the reading too much?

i could run 4 gauges but thats a little over the top, i have seen 4 gauge setups for balancing carbs but not in cabin.

else i could have a 4 way switch i suppose? but thats not going to do all 4 at once unfortunately.

any light on all of this?

Doesn't you manifold have the pressure balance tube?

Ie. The carbies join to a manifold that bolts to the engine, and this manifold is actually as one internally, or it has an external bolt on attachement that balances out the pressure...

It's seen on pretty much all 2T-G and 18R-G factory carby manifolds and can be seen here - http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19364

vaccum guages are annoying. I had one plumbed into the ballance tube
of my old 18RG ... taps and flicks all over the shop ... i ended up
    disconnecting it

run thin pipe from each runer to a small fuel filter (to even out some of the pulsing) then one line from that to the guage. You might want to also put a mig welding tip in each line (from port to fuel filter) to further reduce pulstation.

If you are using a single vacuum guage for tuning, put the bloody thing in your tool kit. The only way to properly tune the side draught carbys, solex's/ webers, is with 4 vacuum guages. With 1 guage, you will be as busy as a one legged man in an arse kicking competion, switching the guage from runner to runner.

    cheers Chuck.

    I will ask the obvious.

What information do you really want to read from the guage?

I suppose it is good to know whether your right foot is heavy or light.

If you also read the thread by Turdinator about balance tubes there is some info about how the system works.

To read steadily, the guage needs to be connected to all four intake tracts, as stated before. If you have a spare small port on the balance tube connect the guage to it.

If not then four small pipe fittings need to be tapped into the manifold and these can simply be 'T'ed together into the guage.

Four small (typical) vacuum pipes for the guage will not effect the tune or performance of the sidedraughts.

    Regards

    Rodger
