Default Finally the real weight of a 20V

well I have been sick of people claiming figured of engines without saying what is and what isnt attached, so I finally weighed my 20V.

It is a bare engine: head and bottom end are complete however there are no brackets or manifolds on the engine at all. I have a picture I can post

    the total weight was: 88kg!!!

    Does that weight really matter?
Surely they weight thats important is the engine complete with manifolds, and everything else required for it to run.

well perhaps you have differant style manifolds or differant pulleys whats mostly gonna stay the same is the engine it self, if its standard.
ill weigh my gte 16v when i have it out again.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

That's useful info, different inlet and exhuast setup will alter the overall weight so the 'bare' weight should be the most useful.

The smaller parts are easier to weigh seperately as well, which means that an additive sum can be performed to find overall weight.

If i had some 200-300kg scales here i would weigh my full race engine when it comes out in a few weeks. Any of the Adelaide guys have a set that they can lend me.....

I forgot to also add this info:

the engine in question is an AE101 silvertop, and I weighed the intake

    - Complete intake manifold with injectors, reg, brackets, etc.. (thats your old intake Chris!)
    combined with the throttles: 2KG

    - Unmodified ae101 airbox: 3kg

These might be a bit on the inaccurate side though due to the scale not being made for smaller measurements so I will redo these.

I also did not include the engine mount brackets but I stand by that because the FWD people use a different type. I also didnt include the rear thermostat, I plan on weighing these though later.

blacktopspirit: The blacktop has less than 1kg difference, so just count it as being the same. I dont know what a 4ac weighs but I would like to know - anyone got a 4ac in the S.E suberbs? As for the dry and wet weight issue, thanks for pointing that out I tottaly forgot to check if there was any oil left in it, I will get it reweighed if it has something in it.

MWP: I am with the other guys on this one, my 20v figure by iteself is pretty irrelevant however its to be used as a known value, I weighed this in the most stripped down form so that people can individually weigh each item that add to it the starting weight.

Takai, for this me and my freind used a pendant "veggie market" style scale that was bought off ebay. I has been checked for accuracy against a calibrated digital unit and came up good. By memory it didnt cost him much either. Maybe something like that would be of interest to yourself?

I recomend waiting around for a heavy duty second hand model as they could go quite cheap and its easiest to work with in applications like ours.
