i think the 55 n 56's are HILUX, low ratio boxes,
the 57-58's are from corona's/supras/soarers, longer ratio's
the numbers define the ratio......which i dont know
As far as i know there were quite a few cars that came out with a w55 behind them
Can anyone identify all of these for me?
Also on a side note, for a 4agte pushing 160rwks what would the ratios be like?

Ratios:
First Gear: 3.566:1
Second Gear: 2.056:1
Third Gear: 1.384:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.85:1
Reverse: -4.091:1
They came in:
1982-1983 Toyota Carina
1982-1985 Toyota Celica
1983 Toyota Corona
1986 Toyota Soarer
1986 Toyota Crown
1983 Toyota Chaser
1984-1988 Toyota Hilux 2WD with 22RE(EFI) engine
Edit:
W55 is different in every ratio to a W58. W57 and W58 share all gears except 5th so you were close.Originally Posted by o_man_ra23

You'll note that I put Carina and 3T-GTE after that. I'm well aware that the Aus TE-72 T-18 with the 3T-C had a T50Originally Posted by « RČ» Blinky

The two I didn't list are also very rare
Anyway just a bit annoyed that you didn't listen to me I guess
Oh and o_man_ra23, not that I know of, tho some GX6x might of had em. (crazy japs!) All AUS MA61 were W58

Wilbo, the Carinas were based on the A subframe werent they?? Or did that get changed when the RA6xs come out??
Also, I may just need to find an MA61 to pull a W58 from![]()

For Carina (which you have bugger all chance of finding Oz anyway) the 3T-GTE powered TA63 used a W55. However there is also a 3T and a 3T-E powered TA63's that ran T50's. There is also the 18RG powered RA63 with a W55, 3T-GTE powered TT142 and a few others.

W55's came out in gz10's from factory... see a factory 1gge manual with my own eyes![]()

ps, re gearbox perhaps talk to brett
Also TT141? corona's came with 3T-GTEs and W55...
And I also think a late model lexus might have come with a steel plate W55 (Don't quote me on that one!).
btw, out of interest why does it matter what they come out of?Something to think about is that these days it has been so long that there is no guarantee that the stock gearbox is still there (as opposed to a w57/w58)

I'm pretty sure my RT133 Corna Sedan with 21RC has a W55 box as it is alloy compared to my steel W50 in my RT132 Liftback.![]()
TOYOTA CORONA RT132 LIFTBACK 18RC 5 Speed Manual all original..........maybe a 1GGTE or 1JZ who knows!
Wilbo, I have a feeling Brett is using that box for his Twincharged RA40 projectHow much strength difference is there between a W55, W57 and W58??
