I would probably spend more time replacing the old sound deadener throughout the car,the stuff under the carpets, kick panels etc.Its a pain in the arse but it make a massive difference in road/engine noise etc...

As for the weight reduction argument,I reckon unless you running a dedicated race car its a massive waste of time,as noticing 1kg less of weight in your car would only be psychological..I would rather have my engine run a bit more powerful to allow me to enjoy a quieter drive.

Back to using this sound deadener stuff. Its got its pros, being very durable and it also goes on quite thick,so you will probably get away with minor scratches etc from dropping the shifter. Saying that it a pretty permanent solution as I would hate to be the one who has to sand the bastard when you decide to spray the car down the track.

    thants my 2c

    cheers

same. i dunno why everybody spends so much on exhaust mods and all that so there motor sounds schweet and then they dont wanna listen to it. sounds like a ricer ideal lol

but if u dont wanna hear the motor do the inside of the firewall.

Last time I checked, exhaust noise came from the rear of the car. If I wanna hear my exhaust, I wind down the window

i was thinking of stripping the deadener from the inside of my cabin for a cleaner carpetless look.... BUT i intended to spray deadener on the underbody to keep noises down...any thoughts?

Body deadener unless it's on stupidly thick will never provide as decent sound protection as a layer of carpet with underlay.

that sound deadener stuff is designed to make thin panels heavier, so that their natural frequency decreases... ie, it doesn't flap around so much and transmit the sound waves into panel movement as much, and reducing the re-radiated noise...

with that in mind, wide flat panels are the ones that will benefit most from deadener.
    chassis rails probably will not.

engine bay will not benefit much at all... since you have a big opening at the bottom of the engine bay to let sound out anyway.

bonnet is good as it is typically a very big flat panel..

under car? protects a little from stones and stuff, so that is a plus.

around exhaust? if it doesn't dry hard, then spraying the panels above exhaust from inside will help..

definitely spray the panels in the boot that sit above the muffler.......!!11!11!!!
