Default Alternative to sand blasting (rims) ???

    Hey guys,

Got some centres (4) of 3 piece rims that the paint is pretty shitty on, and ive got several quotes for sandblasting , All ~$80 EACH CENTRE to get done... that does NOT include powdercoating ...

is there any "DIY" way of getting baked on paint of wheel centres that would cost less than $320 ???

If i was able to remove the shit paint myself at home , i could paint over them with some hardcore engine enamel or something similar that can stand harsh conditions and heat...

All help much appriciated and +repping will be done !

Do you know of someone who has a strip tank with Turko? Leaving rims in Turko for 24hrs does plenty.

Oh - and as for paint - There are a few products on the market. I like using a baked enamel where possible - you need the paint, the correct thinners and primer + an oven that the rims can fit in. - Sorry edit again - Wattyl sell the things that you need.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Sorry old chap - you can buy a cheap blasting gun from Supershit - then you need a compressor and some sand and Bob's your uncle.

And he could probably arrange to have them powder coated cheaply (ie. at a good price, not cheaply done) also...

would cost about the same to send them there , get them back , sandblasted and powdercoated as it would cost to just take them to my local industrial area to get done ...

Thanks for the offer shelldrake, but i need ideas on how to DIY at home....

I think you'd probably still get it done cheaper than your quote for sandblasting alone...

Coffee - in the past when stripping paint I have favored teh use of automotive type paint stripper, the remove with the thinners and a scotch brite. One needs good gloves for this approach.

If the job doesn't go too well, just sniff the thinners and things will appear much better.

Take them down to the closest park that has a sand pit and roll them around until paint is removed.

If they arn't alloy could you get them acid dipped?

What about just sanding down any loose faky bits and just painting over them?
