Default what rear end to use for drifting a ra23

hey im jake kinda new to the forum and iv just started up building a ra23 celica for drifting.

well as you all know in drifting you need eather a locked diff or lsd but you need a good hand brake also im not looking at compeating but i wanna have fun.

anyway i was wondering about what rear end to use i was looking into the hilux rear end but would prefer to use a locked diff still cause lsds open up after a while of hard kaining.
    .
other than that what disk brakes can be modified to fit onto the ra23 rear end i had a quick search but couldnt really find much if anyone has any info on this let me know.

    cheers Jake

I you say you searched but didn't find much info, then I reckon you'd be lying. There are numerous threads on changing rear axles and rear disc brakes for the RA23. There is also plenty of info on diffs available and diff centres that can be used.

Go and have a good search, find some info by yourself, and if you've got specific questions after that, then ask.

lets start at the top..... you want to get into drifting but dont want to compete? im going to assume this is just on the track, otherwise thats just gay

2nd, have you ever driven with a locked diff? if this is a registered car this is not only STUPID but fucking dangerous.

3rd, they have a t series diff do a search you will find st141 rear disks and calipers will fit, i am working on another setup that is entirely different (c210 skyline brakes)

yer see thats the answer i was looking for thanx but yes i have driven with a locker i dont mind it cause celicas are a short wheel base and no it isnt an everyday car i have another car and yes it will be driven on the road sometimes very little but only drifting on the track.

and the main reason im asking cause im not a car mechanic i only play with cars in my spare time.

but thanx for your answer its only gonna be a basic build up nothing to special

p.s i dont know how to post pics if i send the pics to someone would you be able to out them up on another thread ill start a build thread

You just missed a killer diff option in the for sale thread.

Hilux diff, shortened, tight lsd, ae86 disk brake (i know you'll love), all new bushes, fully rebuilt...

Anyway, if you want lockers or air lockers or whatever, the hilux is a mad option as its a 4wd diff and there are plenty of after market locker options...
It will also take easily to a ma70 supra brake upgrade, which will give you a drum hand brake, which should do you nicely also. Or you can go all out and try to hook up a hydraulic handbreak lever and you've got a great settup...

    Anyway, have fun with it.

    Cheers,

Q:- what motor are you running..? & what power out put..?
I'm told the "T" diff is strong.. but.. what power..?
You can buy New LSD, "T" centres, for about $900.oo
As for brakes ... well .... RT142's rear disc's are very easy...
    & here's a picture

    RA23/28's diff with, RT142 disc's...

You will need a set of RT disc's..
    & a pair of rings & 8 bolt's..
    & here's a picture

& a pair of dona' shocker hangers..
    & here's a picture

Still doing a write up, on this mod..... "here soon"
