Does anyone know off hand what the AGX's are worth? If not no worries I can call up myself..
Hi,
As Ben as already hinted at it I thought some more on the Bilstein option might be a good thing to look into.

And speak with Paul, he can pretty much give you a Bilstein to your specs.

around 200 a corner for the agx
I wouldnt call the 102s cheap
The TRD options for ae86 are no longer short stroke as they are based on a KYB insert. They used to use a tweaked Tokico 102 insert which is out of production.
I've got the KYB's ordered, from what I have read they are about 90% as good as the 102s were for a fraction of the cost.

it all depends on what you call cheap, and for how much you can get them.
the HTS you could get for around $800 delivered, which is the same price most pay for the AGX's, but you get 45way adjustment. i was going to go the HTS, but then i realised that the sprinter will always be a sprinter, and i'd rather spend good money on my other car. im running the AGX setup, and it is a well rounded and suitable setup for both the street and track. the only way your going to need something more is if your the drift king or something.

joel, i'm getting a quote today, i'll let you know.
45aken, thanks for the tip, i'm still not 100% sure how much shorter i want the shocks to be, in a previous configuration my car was super slammed and i got over it after a few years. i like driving straight over speed humps at 40 ks![]()
what model commodore shocks did you use? i gather that they are probably all the same.
if i was serious, i would probably get much better shocks, but i'm just a boy racer/closet drifter.
i cant remember the pt number, all i know is that it was a rear 8 way adjustable of a commo. ask nightdevil-he is running the same and might shed some more light.
the one thing to remember is that however much you cut out of the strut, is how much lower your car is. so if u too out say 50mm, then you cannot regain this 50mm back. thats why people use spacers. on the sprinter i took out 50mm and the ride height is no where near slammed. there is about 2" from my guard to the stock wheels, but i can dump it another ~10cm. (when i get wheels).

Just called Bursons, the guy couldn't get a listing for the camaro rear shocks, but had a price listed for the SW20 rears (for the front)
trade price was $185 each, which isn't really too bad.
i want my car to be 2 inches or so lower than standard, top of wheel level with bottom of gaurd type height. i'm running king lows at the moment and they are good and comfortable, but just not low enough.
i will have to do more calculating, but if i get shocks 40mm shorter than standard, i should be able to cut this much out and not use spacers. This is a ssuming that the strut length will be the sam, which it probably isn't.
thanks for the info all!
i'd look at going maybe 20mm with a 20mm spacer if you are going to go coilover style, as then you'll only lower your car like 1" and then be able to adjust it to whatever height you want with ease.

I'm bumping this as i have done my research and have narrowed the choice down to two inserts.
Rear SW20 MR2 inserts
Celica 204 inserts.
anyone used both?
Shinnybluesteel,
I havent used either but am in the same predicament at the moment. Do you know the dimensions on the the sw20 rear ie
body length
Extended length
diameter
I am about to buy koni AE92 but this may be a cheaper option
SW20 rear inserts are the best fit in the front of an AE86 according to my calculations, they give the correct installed height without needing a spacer.
the dimensions are:
cartridge length:360 mm
compressed length: 370mm
extended length: 542mm (stroke 172mm)
are you looking to get the agx or standard?
i just replaced the standard ones with agx (running ~7k rates now) and it is so much better. if your thinking about running any serious spring rates, then the standard type shocks are just way too bouncy, trust me. but if your only going to be running lowered springs, then the standard type is fine, especially becuase it's coming from a heavier car

have you talked to Koni ( i.e Proven Products) about getting them to short stroke a set? they are usually quite obliging and depending on how you talk to them often do that sort of work for very little cost.I have looked into getting the Konis, but they aren't short enough for what i want and while they are reasonably priced, i don't think they will have the range of adjustment that i want.
Cheers Michael
Opinions are like assholes, everybodys got one.
They do a shortstroke race model of the Yellows. Ask around and you will find.
