    Question Exhaust System ? [4AGE AE82]

I went and got some quotes today for an exhaust system for my 1986 AE82 Twincam Seca (16v 4AGE). To start off with nearly 80% of the shops i called up on gave me the shits with some arse hole on the end of the line, let's some of these shops didn't seem very enthused about their work, or happy me asking what brand muffler they where going to place on my car and how much a certain style tip was. Quite a few shops got the hang up the phone approach

Even so I've come up with a few options for my self but am unsure which is the best to go with, so i thought I'd ask some advice from the boys and girls around here with a lot more knowledge then me

My main mission is to remove the old muffler as its rusted badly with a small 5c hole in it below one of the exit pipes. I'd like a system that isn't stupidly loud that I get an instant defect sticker on my car and that my brain doesn't rattle when sitting idle or on the freeway.. I don't mind a bit but not to a stage where I'll rip the thing off in a week. Cost is also another big factor as I'm not loaded up with green notes atm...

I could: (very open to any other suggestions)

    • Get a custom made 2.25 inch from the Cat as their's barely any company's that have systems pre-made for the ae82 seca.

      [ Quoted $300 - $450 for system + $20 - $150 depending on tip]

    • Assuming the stock pipe is 2" as I've heard it is, get a new sports muffler at the back and tip, get a setup made where the new muffler easily bolts straight onto the flange after the rear axle, allows me the ability to easily swap from stock to aftermarket if needed in the future (police, selling car, etc)

      [$120 ?? for sports muffler + $20 - 150 tip]

    • or get a new 2" made and do the above...

      [$190 for system + $20 - 150 tip]

    • or go 2.5" but I've heard this is a bit large for a 1.6L 4AGE

      [$Unknown ?]

So whats the verdict guys :S also what prices should i be hunting for such a setup, am i getting ripped off ?. I'm located in Frankston, Melbourne and any shop recommendations would be awesome.

hey cut the zorst ppl's some slack, they have an exhausting job(please dont neg rep me into oblivion).
the most power productive system would be a 2 - 2 1/2" mandrel system off a set of tuned length extractors. if your running the standard exhaust manifold there will be minimal gains to had with the zorst, unless you learn to love noise/drone.
if youve got bugger all money why dont you just replace the busted muffler? grab a super crap 2" in 4" tip cannon, and get an exhaust shop to fit it. should cost you under $100 installed, wont be too much louder and will sound faster. anything more than that is a waste of time imho.
As for exhaust places id recommend trufit in moorabbin, they aint cheerful but they do good work and dont bum rape you afterwards.
    GA23(never finished-now with cracked block ) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.

dont go any bigger than 2" for a standard 4a, honestly youd be wasting your time. (unless its a power house, but i doubt it is and ever will be,)

there a bloody loud lil motor, if you want a sports sytem to be quite with no drone, you will need 2 mufflers. 2 straight thru design muffs will sound nice,

but your attitude sounds like you know more then me, so dont listen to ppl that have experience will you?

(btw, i work in an exh shop, and have done a few 4age systems)

dude, the exhaust shop wont have any trouble fitting a 2" muffler to a 1 3/4 pipe, pipe just needs a flare up,

how do you think all the fully sick lancer boys fit there sick 3.5" inlet cannons to there stock 1 1/2 system (gawd damn there stupid, and they pay big too $$$ )

probably round the $400 for cat back with 1 muffler and 1 hotdog resinator, $550 for 2 muffs, +tips which vary in price accordingly,
that would be just your average press bent jobbie, dont waste money on mandrell or stainless, as a mild steel jobbie will out last the car anyway
