My 1G-GE starter from a 1985 XX bolted straight up to the 1G-GTE gen2 w/ W55 gearbox.
It is fairly unlikely to be different I think.
Could someone with an EPC or anyone who knows these part number please advise.
Are there differences between the two? Or between year models?

I don't think they would be any different because the ring gear on both engines is in the same place. I can check the part number for ya tommorow if ya want.

The starter motor should be the same as the 3T GTE reduction starter (can anyone deny this?). Ingram do an exchange unit the Ingram part number is RXS422.

Hmm dunno if this will help too much but it's worth a look anyway:

GA61 would be what you're after, or anything else starting with G.
I'm pretty sure there are other starters that'll fit fine?

Have you got a starter motor? That needs rebuilding? OR you don't have one and need one?
My reason for mentioning the 3T reduction type is simple - the 3T (or 2T for that matter) uses the same flywheel and ring gear and the same bellhousing bolts up. This ensures that the same starter may be used.
If you have one (reduction type), then why not try your friendly auto electrician and give him that Ingram part number?
There will not be any difference between the year models, the flywheel/ring gear/bellhousing is the same (barring some different clutch mounting and step size differences on the flywheel) from the TA22 right through to the 6 speed Altezza box (well the bell housing on the 6 speed is a bit special in that it holds some of the gearing). I have actually bolted the 6 speed to a 3T, so I am more than a tad confident.

ok heres the situation...
I bought a 1G to 4A starter motor adaptor from techno pro spirit about a year ago so i could run a reduction type starter (without having to shell out on a rare AE92 one)
i got a 1G-GTE starter locally (from twinturbo86) but the engagment gear from the 1g
starter collides with the face of the flywheel teeth 50% of the time,
not starting the car and also making a 'dink' sound when it hits.
so i looked at a 4age and a 1ggte starter motor engagement gear side by side and
the 1g has flat cut teeth end to end but a 4ag one has a angular piece
cut from the top of each gear to help it align corrrectly if it doesnt perfectly align with the flywheel teeth.
thats why i need to know..i have both a 4a starter and a 1g starter so IF the end gear are interchangable then i should have no issues but id rather have a part that fits perfectly.

sorry to dig up old thread.. but..![]()
If the W57/8 & bell housing, from a 1G motor, will fit a 2T / 3T motor, then i can use a starter from a TE72 ( T18 )
Q:- did the 3T come with reduction drive..?
PS. also the clicking sound can be fixed, with a new pair of solenoid contacts, from your local auto electrician, for under $15.oo..
three screws, two nuts, 25 min' & fixed..
cheers
