could get a decent 1jz auto package for around 1500, manual package with an r154 your gonna be looking at like 3500 upwards id say.
I have a RA28, and am keen to put in a 1jz. It's what everyone is recommending (even if they have something else, which confuses me!)
Everyone keeps telling me that I can get an engine and gearbox for $1500- but try as I may, everything seems to be double that price.
I didn't want to pull an engine apart. Just bolt on bigger turbo, boost controller and EMS for more than stock power. That should do to start with.
Can anyone give me some pointers. I have the cash and ready to go, but don't want to be ripped off.

Yeah no way you'll get 1JZ + manual for 1500, unless these people were talking about a 1G?

ok. So I should be looking for around 3500 for engine and box. Some people say the celica box is bulletproof as is, but so many people go the supra box. I really want to keep it looking standard inside. Do I need a supra box?
And would 3500 cover all ancillaries (manifold, turbos, alternator, wiring etc etc?) Or is a cut the cheapest way?
Celica box (W50) will not bolt up to a 1JZ, your options are W58/R154/V160.

half cut would be the best way as you get all the parts you need.
about $3.5-4k seems to be the going rate.

i'v got a whole cressida you can have for 3-4K has the 1jz and auto out of a jzx90 installed and running, intercooler and plumbing and a set of Lindens twin 2.5" dumps. Not sure what bits and pieces it has that you can use in the ra28 but its there if you are interested.
how much you want for it?

starting to think that a 1gtte might be the way to go. for ease of servicing etc, it's much smaller. still will put out enough to drift and generally get up and go.

1G is a bucket of puss by comparison to a 1JZ but neither will be "great" to drift due to having more weight over the front end.
3SGTE= teh winner (but aint cheap to setup rwd)
1JZ=torquey reliable powermaker (all things a 1g is not in std form)
cheers

I'm no mechanic, I'm a carpenter by trade and heard that the ijz is a quite complex conversion. I want some decent power though. Engine bay will be emptied of anything that can be relocated (battery, washer bottles to boot etc etc) to help with weight bias
