I did a 1J swap on a GX71 which had a digital dash that was cable-driven, just screwed the cable into a mechanical sender on the box
Price could easily be made up with the differences in the sensor/sender costs and the loom - not to mention complexity on the production line should this make a unique loom.Originally Posted by kemicalx
Though, i agree that its fairly illogical to have a digital dash speedo working off a cable.
And although he doesnt have it anymore, dori dori had a factory manual MZ20 but might be able to remember if it was a cable or elecrical sender.

Don't forget the cost of the speedo sensor itself...Originally Posted by kemicalx

Bump and shit
Anyone know if the electronic senders in the jzz30 and Jzx will drive the speedo on my jzx81 mark2 factory fitted with a digital dash? Or will I need to take the sender from the original auto and put it on my jzx90 r154?
I used a JZX81 auto's screw-on electrical speed sender on my R154 and it ran the JXZ81 digital dash perfectly.
thanks for that
another question, out of the three wires that go to the sender unit, im guessing one is the sp2+ terminal that goes to the ecu and the other is the sp2- terminal that also goes to the ecu, what is the third wire?
i "trimmed the fat" off my wiring loom and i now want to get my speedo going lol
use the pinout from this drawing: http://www.linkecu.com/support/docum...otaSpeedSensor
but T the power feed to the sender from your 12V ignition feed that goes to the reverse light switch.
The signal wire then goes to the dash cluster, the dash cluster then feeds a 4 pulse per revolution signal back to the ECU's SP1 terminal.

on most JZX81's SP2 comes from the ABS ECU
Thanks
So it doesn't matter putting the 12v reverse light feed onto the 5v feed terminal?

So according to these body connector pin outs I find the yellow wire ( remeber all factory jzx81 wiring I just cut the plug off and later the wires right up into the loom) coming out of the white plug and take it back to the signal pin of the sender unit, earth one pin and tee off the reverse lights for the other one ?
yep, use run the wires as you describe and it should work. Not sure why Link list it as 5V sensor power, it's 12V in the toyota's the sensor is used in.
Just make sure you T off the hot side of the reverse light switch wiring.
Thanks heaps Mate
Anyone got a part number for the jzx81 sender ?
