Default R154 and W58 Input Shafts

just wondering if the input shafts on these two boxes have the same input shaft... just wondering so i can decide on clutches to go behind my 1j... wat bellhousing will join a 1jz and w58 gearbox together???

Not really be prepared to spend 1500 on a R154 when im only gonna be running close to stock power... so w58 manual conversion in my jzx83 with a good clutch...

Just use the JZ80 2JZ Bellhousing Clutch Slave extra. All bolts up as per factory behind a 1JZGTE. As the non turbos ran a 2JGE with a factory fitted W58.

input splines are the same so if you get a decent clutch for the W58 it can still be used with an R154 if you get a pull-push converter.

na 2j is the cheapest clutch that will work, pull type like the 1jzgte are more expensive.

    If it's a 1J clutch from a R154 box it'll be a pull type clutch. W58 uses a push type.

I'm pretty sure the spline is the same diameter and number of teeth, but that wont be your issue if the clutch was with an R154 before

Edit - Linden you bum . How'd you type that much in less than 2 mins

I think he's looking at getting a W58 and has a R154 clutch already, so a pull/push converter won't help and AFAIK there isnt a converter to make a R154 clutch work with a W58

ok great so will a 2j clutch kit bolt up to a 1jz flywheel or will 2jz flywheel bolt onto a 1jz???

so setup will be 2j bellhousing with (flywheel/clutch to be confirmed) and w58 with 2j NA slave cylinder and then just normal mx83 manual conversion bits...

same crank bolt pattern, just use all the components that relate to the bellhousing your using and it will all work seamlessly.

They arnt overly expensive from Toyota. Around the $400 mark.

Linden, or anyone for that matter. Who has a photo looking down the input spline of an R154.
Im thinking of an easier way to convert a R154 to push type.

EDIT: 17th page of Google images.
    Is this right?

check ed's thread for a front on pic of the tilton setup, its basically the same but has a different front face, or are you planning on photochopping?

Yeah, thought it might have the same front face. Saab 9000 clutch slave (which is what Tilton copied anyway, and its shorter) and a mounting plate would solve the need for this ugly thing:

    hey,

i was just wondering if you could use a w58 with r154 housing to make a pull type w58 or wont it go together, because the pull type set up is actually connected to the housing not the gearbox itself right?

    cheers

    1. Why?
    2. W58 and R154 bellhousings are different bolt patterns im pretty sure.
    3. Why?
    4. ...
    5. Profit.
