    Default Flexibility of 1uz ecu

    Hey guys

Just wondering what y'all can tell me about the 1UZ ecu/ignition/fuel system. Looking at running the stock auto and ecu straight up, obviously it will be a fairly nice thing to drive and relatively economical straight up.

Just wondering if the factory ecu has any ability to cope with a low boost turbo/blower setup as it is, with some tweaks, or with some type of piggyback fuel/ignition controller.

Please bear in mind I'm not after bulk kilowatts so much as something a little bit cool. I already have a motorbike if I want to go proper fast, I'm just after something that can be chucked together on a budget.

Failing that an Aristo half cut isn't such a bad idea...

5-6psi is all the guys run on non-intercooled M90 setups.
Some run up to 8psi, not sure how well it goes though.
All they use is a RRFPR too, no electronic wizardy.

With a decent piggyback though almost anything (within reason) is possible.

But I'd highly suggest going aftermarket ecu if you want more than what an M90 can offer.

I've done a lot of looking and the 1UZ is a great idea in my head but in reality it's a shithouse idea and can never compare to a 2JZGTE.

Honestly, how can you beat 300rwhp for $4500 (being cost of half cut, fcd & cooler - given that regardless of engine choice conversion costs are much the same re: exhaust, mounts, engineering, etc) from an essentially standard engine? And then there are all sorts of aftermarket goodies.............. 1UZFTMFL... unless you're after a stock & reliable 200rwhp I suppose... but then I'd just drive a stock V6 Commodore, really...

    Haha, dude, why would you compare a 1UZ to a 2JZ ?
    Two completely different setups.

No one does a 1UZ conversion expecting it to compare with a 2JZ, and if they do, they are idiots.
People do 1UZ conversions because they either want the V8 or they just don't want a turbo.

    And comparing a 1UZ to a V6 commodore?? please.
    Come back to reality...

And also because the 1UZ is more compact, a lot lighter and can be fit legally in lighter cars.

I was thinking more along the lines of 1uz stock to get it up and running then big single or TT, but as a 2J can make 300rwhp for fuck-all then I think I'd be silly to consider anything else.

Stil, the appeal of a $1200 engine/box/ecu package is nice compared to $3k for a 2J.

    All depends what you want.
You'd be surprised how cheap you can do a 1UZ with adaptronic and twin, say, RB20/SR20 turbo's.

I reckon you'll be around a similar price if you are able to do the manifolds yourself.

Nothing complicated - reverse the manifolds, couple of RB20 turbos on some adaptors and run the dumps across the top. It's a little ghetto but would be effective. Or you could get an XR6T turbo and do this kind of thing:
