Default Door lock barrel - can you get them keyed?

    Howdy,

I have an RN85 (1995) cab chassis hilux ute. Some f$ckwit has attempted to break in by the old screwdriver in the passenger side door lock trick...

Ths is a PITA as when I take my kids to school, I have to do the drivers side shuffle.. not fun when it's raining..

Question amigo's: Can I buy a new barrel and have it keyed to my existing ignition/ driver side door key? I don't want to change all 3 locks, & dont really want to have a different key for the passenger side only...

If this can be done, does a regular (& reputable) lock smith type place do this kind of work?

Call me lucky but this has never happened to me before....

Thx in advance for any replies..

take your key and stuffed barrel to a locksmith - they should be able to re-key a new barrel to suit your existing key.

The KGB locksmith folks at Toowong did this for me once - they were also able to make new keys to fit the existing barrels in my Supra after I the over-word key I got with the car refused to unlock doors or turn the ignition barrel.

Might get this done for the hatch lock in the Seca. Driver's lock was stiffer than a Catholic Priest at a Boy Scout Jamboree, but fixed that yesterday by spraying a crapload of WD40 into the barrel and around the rear of the lock. Smooth as silk now, although similar tactics proved useless on the hatch lock

FYI the passengers barrel normally has a code stamped on it.
Not sure if this code is purely something that Toyota can use to look up the key design, or whether locksmiths can use it to ?

Normally the right hand side on toyotas ive seen!

It is the code to cut the key, so if you find it write it down and keep it in a safe place. Then if you lose all your keys you can take the number to a locksmith and tell them to cut a key to it.

definatly getting the locks done on my celica or do you guys reacon it may be possible to do the ignition barrel itself?
and anyone with a newer road bike should try and avoid places where this can happen, someone managed to to screw driver my fireblade and the H.I.S.S enabled major PITA and costs $$$!
