    Default bypassing standard toyota immobiliser.

as dodgy as this sounds, mates mum bought a 96 camry new, been fine for ages, as of last week the immobiliser dongle stopped working, and the car is undrivable.

we went to toyota, gave em all the original receipts and id and shit, and after fucking us around for 45 mins say they cant do anything about it and referred us to an auto electrical company, that want $550 to supply a new dongle.

    fuck that.

is the security system inside the ECU? or is it the same type as an aftermarket jobbie, that i can pull out and hard wire to get the car started?

he doesnt gvie a crap about the immobiliser not working, but we need the car to start.

alternatively, anyone had this issue arise before? so we can get the dongle working??!

the dongle jsut doesnt seem to work, and the battery inside isnt replacable.

Can you clarify if the remote control is not working or the actual signal receiver unit in the car is not working? It is unlikely that the actual immobiliser is defective as they usually last for years...

If it is the remote, go to Toyota and get a replacement remote for $34 (remote with one button in the middle) and go to the service dept for it to be programed.

Or you can try ebay and get yourself a remote which you can program yourself. But for this to work your existing remote control has to emit some radio frequency.

the remote should only be keyless entry not an immobiliser
the car should still start but your doors wont open unless you use the key
Any chance of a pic of the key and remote so we know which system we are dealing with
You wont need the 550 dollar option dont worry

Toyota dealer should be able to program the remote. Mine died but fortunately I had another which still worked so I was able to reprogram the new remote myself.. My Camry instruction book gives instructions on what to do to reprogram the remote. In the event of the remote dying completely it said to turn off ALL accessories and turn on the ignition for about 30 minutes to disable immobiliser (red light will stop flashing)whereupon the car will start and you will not need remote any more. New remote from Toyota cost me about $40

maybe it should, but it isnt.

im not an idiot, its an immobiliser.

ok, i badgered and badgered toyota yesterday, and passed on ap7's advice in a manner that seemed as if i knew someone in the trade and his tone flipped.

seems they were just fucking lazy, a remote is $42 and its a simple procedure to program it.

so we did that, and now its all done and dusted.

    cheers for all d helpz
