Would be interested.
Hey Guys,
I am going to do some investigation into getting some new hinges made up based on the original ones as the originals are CRAP !!!. Has anyone tried this before and been successful ?
If not is anyone else interested as a group lot will reduce the cost dramatically. No Guareentees like i said INVESTIGATION at this point but an idea of interest would be good on getting quotes.

No worries, I will also do my investigations Chuck, How about we both update here if we hit it rich on strong hinges. I am pretty sure we will be able to off load at least 10 of each.

I have refurbed some TA hinges with pretty good success.
the orgionals arent crap there all just flogged out
To go from good to flogged out doesnt take long. The right one always goes first due to the bonnet lifting from the front and a little bit of twisting pressure. Mine aren't two bad but it is starting to become a 2 person exercise to lift the bonnet without causing addtional damage.

We currently have a Mk1 escort (similar hinge style) using a set of alloy hinges fabricated to replicate the std ones (std ones were to heavy)
and they flex like buggery but still work
If you repaired them properly i see no reason why you should have issues
The biggest problem with these hinges is incorrect lubricant. WD40 and the like does stuff all. Use a spray grease, I use a lithium grease. The other major cause of hinge failure is incorrect adjustment. When installed and adjusted correctly the hinge should not catch on any part of itself.
cheers Chuck.

I'd love some good hinges. ATM i think i have a TA22 and an RA23 hinge as my whole bonnet sits at an angle
But my hinges have a bugger load of play so thats my interest! Anyone got pics on how they reco'd them?
Cheers,
Jase
If anyone wants to send me some i will rebuild them,
With the TA22 ones i cut out wall the rivets sand blasted them
I brazed some "washers" over the flogged holes and made a nice fitting 2 part celvis and put a bolt and K-nut through it to hold them together,
Would have been nice with a nice needle roller thrust bearing in there or even some nylon washers.
